Mine did it right away at 8 weeks because my mother has diabetes. I think that if you don't have a family history though it's in second tri. My appointment guide says 16 weeks.

Standard is 27-28 weeks unless you've been previously diagnosed with GD or have multiple risk factors. Tricky thing with GD is that many women who get diagnosed with insulin resistance in pregnancy have no risk factors.
If you are have risk factors (prior GD, pregnant with multiples, measuring way ahead, etc) it's likely a 1hr glucose screen will be ordered in late 1st tri/early 2nd tri. If you pass that one, you get to take it again (lovely right?) in late 2nd tri or 3rd tri.

Mid-20 weeks. I was offered the early screen in this pregnancy as my last baby was 10 pounds. However, I declined as I have always passed the test with flying colors - just had a big baby
(Lurking) With DD my doctor gave it to me early in my 2nd tri because of my weight. She then gave it to me again maybe around 25ish weeks. It's not that bad. The worst part is just sitting there for an hour.
My mom has diabetes and we sure it was a result from gestational diabetes with her last kid.
Have you talked to your OB about this? My doctor has said around 26 weeks for me but I don't have a history of diabetes in my immediate family (it is in my extended family). As PPs have said, they will sometimes do it earlier if they have reason to think you're at risk so talk to your doctor about it.
I told the nurse when I had to answer medical history... This is my problem. I eat and then within a few hours I have this sudden drop in blood sugar. The other day I ran frantically in publics because suddenly my blood sugar just went way down. I found a bag of rolls and ate the whole bag and the only thing I kept thinking was "juice" so I got a mini oj. And by the time we got into the car I was feeling better. I called my mom and she said if it continues to call my doctor and try to stay away from sugars . I called my doctors office today so if I hear from them by tomorrow I will talk to whoever I need to about it.
How much protein, healthy fats, and fiber are you eating each meal/snack? If your blood sugar levels are falling that suddenly it sounds like you could be going too carb-heavy or not getting the right balance to stabilize your levels.

That's exactly what my mom said. She said pastas will cause this sugar drop. She said add meat in with spaghetti if I'm not already doing that. I'm just starting to get my appetite back and I have had nooooo appetite for meat
Yep. Just eating carbs (or any other simple carbs) will give you a sugar high and quick crash. You absolutely need to balance it out with some protein, healthy fats, or fiber. Those take longer to digest and release the sugar into your blood slowly so you don't have the yoyo effect...not to mention you need the nutrients these foods provide.
If you don't want to eat red meat go for poultry, eggs, fish, low fat cheeses, yogurt without a lot of added sugar, etc. Switch to higher fiber (whole wheat) pastas, brown rice, and other complex carbs. Fruits & veggies provide fiber too, avocados provide healthy fats. Just make sure you don't have carb-only meals and snacks.

For people with no history, it's usually 28 weeks.
