Santa!! I know him!! (POLL)

If your family does "Santa" gifts, how do you do it?

As a kid, all of our gifts under our tree were wrapped unless they were huge or oddly shaped (like bikes or American Girl beds and such). MH's family only wrapped gifts from one another and their "Santa" gifts were all unwrapped. I LOVED seeing so many wrapped packages and taking turns with my sisters unwrapping gifts and I definitely want to wrap all the gifts under our tree, but MH thinks its crazy for "Santa" gifts to be wrapped. I will of course, be the one wrapping them so I will get my way :). It just made me curious as to what everyone's traditions were regarding their gifts from Santa.

  • Everything gets wrapped. My mom (still to this day) signs all the gifts from "Kris Kringle" or "Ho Ho Ho" or "St. Nick". She is very clever.

Funny story about this (and by funny I mean horribly depressing and terrible). This is one of my earliest, clear memories. It was my brother's first Christmas (half brother) and I was 6 years old. My step-mom was putting a bunch of gifts under the tree and some of them weren't wrapped. At our house all of the gifts under the tree were always wrapped, so I asked her why those particular ones weren't wrapped. She told me it was because those were going to be Jonathan's gifts from Santa. But it isn't Christmas yet??? And that is how you tear a kid's childhood away from them... Can you tell I'm still bitter? ;)

Oh no! How sad :( I am still bitter about this whole "elf on a shelf" thing too. I stopped believing when my little sister's class did something similar to this and my mom decided my sister needed to get gifts from a special elf they were reading about in class. I didn't believe it for a minute and it made me stop believing in Santa as well. So sad :(

@cbear2012 all our Santa gifts are a different paper as well, so not to give anything away!!

@breannie My mom still signs everything as if it were from Santa as well. I plan to do that forever for my own kids too!

  • My Santa gifts were always something big, so they were unwrapped.  One year, it was a giant chalkboard mounted in the classroom Santa brought me.  They, or rather, Santa had completely turned my playroom into a classroom.  Another year, it was a Nintendo that was already plugged up and a dance game, complete with pad (think DDR), ready to be played.

We will probably do the same- the big gift that kids will want immediately, but will require assembly, will be put together on Christmas Eve and sitting by the tree when B/kids wake up.  The rest will be from us and will be wrapped.

  • Usually my parents did different wrapping paper, but we also put some unwrapped gifts. You know, all the little gifts that Santa pulls out of his bag. So basically gifts that you asked Santa for we're wrapped in his paper, gifts Santa gave to you just bc he gives out gifts are unwrapped.
What kind of gifts are these? We didn't do anything like that so just curious. Do you mean like the generic gifts like umm....candy canes, baby dolls and basketballs? LOL I can't think of anything that might fall in that category.

  • I voted SS bc as a kid all my presents from Santa and others were wrapped and under the tree. We won't be "doing Santa" so all the presents (if we decide to spend the money to do presents) will be wrapped.

  • Um, I still get gifts from Santa. They just get delivered to my mom because Santa says I move around too much...

I voted SS*; growing up, big items would be unwrapped under the tree, but we always had some wrapped gifts too and I don't remember them being in special paper. I'm slightly jealous that Santa had the time to specially wrap all of the gifts for PPs and yet, my mom had to wrap my gifts from Santa because his elves were VERY BUSY! making toys. *hmph*
