HELP - reaction to medication (antibiotic)

This may be a long shot but here goes:

Has anyone had their LO take an antibiotic called TEVA-SULFAMETH?

My son has MPI and has had a skin reaction this weekend after taking this antibiotic for an ear infection. I looked at the ingredients- he took the liquid form and I don't see anything that jumps out at me as possible dairy EXCEPT for "Cherry flavor". Could that be the culprit?

It is also possible that he just does not tolerate sulfa drugs, but after speaking to my Doc office this morning, they were surprised that he had a skin reaction to this drug and said it seemed unusual. So now I am wondering if the reaction was due to dairy rather then the actual medication itself IYKWIM?

Anyone out there experience anything similar?

Re: HELP - reaction to medication (antibiotic)

  • My daughter has a Sulfa allergy - she actually had full body hives and tongue swelling to sulfa based eye drops. Her allergist said it was very unusual. But, given the reaction we treat her as though she has a sulfa allergy now.

She does have FPIES to milk but the reaction is completely different.

Could you call the pharmacy or the pharmaceutical corporation to ask if it somehow contains dairy?
