wtf reflux.

I hate you reflux. You turn my little girl into a spitting up, crying, fussing, miserable baby!
Zantac hasn't helped her. Tried nutramigen made it worse. Enfacare has her so constipated. My supply is dwindling so I can only get about 75% of her bottles to be BM. I'm an EPer now due to her serious aggravation at breast. Can someone find a solution to this miserable baby dilemma!!

Re: wtf reflux.

  • Relux is the enemy!

We tried zantac, but now we're on Previcid.  We also were able to switch from Neosure to Enfamil Gentlease.  We have also elevated her mattress, so she sleeps on a slope. And we were told to hold her upright 30 minutes after eating.

As for constipation, they said I could do 1 oz of apple juice for every month of age.  So we'll do 1oz (sometimes 2) and that usually keeps this moving.  They said we could do pear juice too.

  • Prevacid is the only thing that worked for us. I spent so much time cursing the reflux! We also added an ounce or two of prune juice to help with the constipation.

Yes, Prevacid, but take Zantac for a couple weeks until it kicks in, or things will get worse before they get better.

Constipation for us did not get better until we quit Enfacare.  Powder was not as bad as pre-mixed.  The juice (which we did with 50% water) can help, but it wasn't often enough.  Perhaps you can use regular formula for 50% of the bottle or something.

I was worried the strong reflux meds were messing with her gut bacteria and that contributed to the constipation so we tried some probiotics.  I don't know if it helped.  Maybe.

    It will get better!

I just wanted to say that being able to provide "only" 75% of her intake via BM is hardly "only"-worthy. Seriously. Especially EPing. That $h@! is no joke. You need to pat yourself on the back for that, rather than thinking you're not measuring up. It's awesome. :)

  • Thanks @brummy14
I am exhausted with pumping. Going on 13 weeks already 6xs a day. Blah. But I am truckin on.

Update on stupid reflux: took my LO took the pedi today, getting my own parking spot there since I take her tere so damn much. Lol. Anyways, got a script for Prevacid but before that we are going to try gas drops and an alternating BM bottle then enfacare bottle. Rice cereal is also the next step in her bottles to thicken it up. We will see how it goes.
  • We use rice cereal to thicken up milk too, but it only binds her up more :(

Went to pedi last week and were now giving a couple ounces of prune juice in formula. It's worked pretty well do far!

    Good luck, reflux sucks :(

Second all of this! 75% is a lot, pumping or not!!!

Oh yes, my LO had no issues pooping until the rice cereal. Oh man, it made him so constipated. It was awful!!!! We tried oatmeal too. Same thing. Hopefully it works for you, if needed. We also give gas drops, they're awesome. But they do make some babies constipated so keep that in mind. We only give if needed.

Nice, @Throw3ks -- keep it up! :) I've been EPing since the girls were born, and was able to keep up with them (after pumping my brains out for the entire 3 months they were in the NICU -- like 10 hours a day attached that machine. No joke) until about 4 months ago -- and I'm able to provide 70-80% of their intake, now that they've caught up with me. I regularly want to throw the pump out of a moving vehicle. But, the end is finally in sight -- my intent is to begin weaning this spring once we get through flu season. So, I'm around 2/3 of the way done with this nonsense. :) Hang in there. One day at a time (as is true for every other part of this whole preemie/NICU process!)
