I was just thinking about all of the things we are told while we are pregnant about being pregnant and birthing babies. Some of those things can be spot on where others leave us scratching our heads wondering how an idea so crazy came about. I just thought maybe we could share some of the crazy(and some maybe not so crazy) things we have heard.
For instance I was talking to my mom and we were discussing how some folks believe you can "mark" a baby by things you do and see during pregnancy. I have recently read a study of how true stress can affect an unborn baby. I do agree with staying as stress free as possible.
My grandmother was pregnant when a hog was killed (lived on a farm in late 1940's) She was helping to process the meat and she had blood on her hands. She felt a pain and leaned over and put her hands on the front of her thighs. My uncle was then born with a blood vessel disorder that started in his upper thighs. My great grandmother told my grandmother she had "marked" him.
This is an extreme example, but what things have you been told you should or shouldn't do while pregnant? What was predicted the outcome would be if you didn't follow those instructions?
Re: Old Wives Tales and Such
I have never heard about leaving a "mark" on a baby. I am 3 days away from my due date and sadly have been looking up natural ways to help this baby come out and it seems that all of them don 't work unless you are ready to go into labor in the first place. I was reading tons of studies and it was depressing.
Lots of crazy things to avoid while pregnant...who can keep track!!!
oh, and don't you dare stretch your arm over your head or that will make the cord wrap around the baby's neck...

People are so kind aren"t they
I am wondering if the marking the baby thing is regional ? My family is from Kentucky and my mom said that was a pretty common thought among their family and friends. Any KY ladies that have heard of it?
I had not heard the one about cravings...interesting
