Going to Magic Kingdom in December

Hi everyone. I'm most a lurker now that I have 3 kids but I would like your suggestions. I'm going to Magic kingdom Orlando December 28. I have a 10yo girl, a 2 yo girl, and a baby boy who will be 8 months by then. My husband will be deployed 7-9 months next years so we are doing this as something for the girls/ family to do/remember before he leaves. I'm a little nervous though regarding the crowd, my 2 year old who is a hand full and my EBF baby boy who latches and unlacthes all the time because of distraction. I hope we end up having fun instead of stressing out. I'm trying not to think about it. Any suggestions will help. Thanks in advance!

  • Don't expect to stay in the parks all day, every day because you will probably end up with meltdowns with three young kids. Go for a few hours in the morning, go back to hotel to nap/rest/swim in afternoon, and then head back for a few hours in the evening.

Make use of the baby care centers in each park to feed/change the baby.

If you aren't bringing your own stroller, rent a stroller from one of the many places in Orlando rather than at the parks themselves because it's cheaper. They will even deliver them to your hotel.

I'm sure there is more I could say, but can't think of it right now. Feel free to ask any questions!

  • I agree with not staying in the park all day. What I used to do with my parents is go when the park opens for a few hours, go back to the hotel to recharge, then return in the evening, just as PP said.

I thing that in order to enjoy it, you can't have any expectations. Just go with the flow and take deep breaths when you need to!

  • I haven't yet been with kids but have gone as an adult with no kids and I told myself that I will not bring my kids until they are past the nap stage as I saw soooooo many miserable children.  If your bringing 3 kids, do as the above posters said and do small chunks of time, lots of naps, lots of food, keep to their normal schedules as much as possible.  If you are keeping their needs in mind and are not just trying to get the most time at the parks to get your money's worth you ALL will enjoy it so much more!  There are a ton of sounds, lights, motions and it can lead to sensory overload pretty quick if your child is tired and hungry!

There are many magical memories to be had, especially before daddy is deployed...just ensure the kids are rested, fed and enjoying themselves!!

  • Just returned from Disney with a 2.5 yr old and 8 month EBF.
Rented a double stroller from abbf.com and 2 cribs
    Had extra help (Nana)
Went to the childcare centers to nurse
Got Fast Passes for long rides and went on short ones while waiting, get app from undercover tourist

I got to the park as early as we could ( 10am) usually
brought 2 ergos, one for each kid when standing in long lines

I think the key to our success was relaxing and accepting we can't see everything....and enjoying a mickey mouse icecream here and there :)

  • Second the Ergo. We bought one before going on a 3 day weekend trip (not to Disney, but did go to the Zoo and parks), and the Ergo was a lifesaver. I imagine it would be on a trip to Disney too!
  • Thank you all for all your comments and recommendations. I'm actually asking my mom if she could come along to help us out. I will definitely be getting fast passes and since we are staying at one of Disney's economies hotel we can do the one extra hour in the am at magic kingdom before the park opens to all the general public. I will def. check the double stroller rental site and I will talk to my husband about taking a break and returning to the hotel. The baby carrier seems to be a must. I have both a regular baby carrier and a sling. I wonder which on will work better. Thank you ladies!
