How many naps?

Just out of curiously, what does a daily nap schedule (if any) or daily schedule look like for your LO?

Liam usually has a pretty similar routine from day to day. He will usually eat around 5 am and go back to sleep until 8:30. Then he will go back to sleep around 10 and sleep for 30 mins to an hour and then this routine repeats. Some days he will get a good 2-3 hour nap in. I notice that as the day progresses, his naps get shorter and shorter and it gets harder to get him to sleep. I keep waiting on him to condense his naps, but he doesn't seem to want to.

Re: How many naps?

  • That sounds pretty much like my day. I wasn't sure if that was the norm or if he should have a set schedule yet.

  • DDs naps range from 20 minutes to 2 hours. She's *usually* down for the night around 10pm and wakes every 2-4 hours to eat. And we usually get up for the day between 8 and 9am

  • A has a very consistent night sleep schedule (to bed around 10:30/11, eats around 4:30, back down until about 8/8:30). Daytime is varied. She eats around every 2 hours, snoozes when she wants.

  • Auli sleeps all the time.  Should I be worried?  She wakes up to be changed or fed, and is bright eyed and bushy tailed when that's happening--full of smiles and giggles--but then she goes back to sleep for 2-4 hours round the clock.  It's been this way for about a week.
  • I don't think that's a cause for concern. Liam sleeps more than he is awake most days and goes through spurts where he can't stay awake.

  • My DD typically takes 3-4 naps and they usually last 2 hours, sometimes 3. He is up for the day around 6:30 and is usually awake for a good 2 hours. Then he naps for about 2 hours and eats and is either up for an hour or so or passes right back out. This goes on the rest of thr day until he wakes up around dinner time then is up until bedtime around 9.

  • Hopefully this link works...it has a chart showing normal sleep patterns compared with ages!

  • Alexis is up at 6:30 to eat, back to sleep from 8:30-10:30.  Then she eats and plays for about 45mins- hour and back to sleep for another 2 hrs.  Starting at 2-3pm she eats, plays and takes cat naps until her last feeding around 8pm and then she sleeps until 2:30 to eat again.  She's been on this schedule for about 2 wks.  She's 9.5 wks old.

So to sum up she takes two 2hr naps and probably two 30-60 min cat naps.

  • DD2 is not a great napper (exactly like her sister) but should have 4 naps and usually has at least 3 (today only 2 and it was a rough day).  They range from 30 minutes to 2 hours (rarely).  I am so looking forward to the day she only needs 2 naps (or 1 or none).  DD1 always dropped naps early and she went to 2 naps just before 6 months.  Is it March yet? ;)

  • We don't keep DS on a schedule.  He eats and sleeps whenever he feels like it and for as long as he feels like it.  Some days, it seems like he sleeps all day, and some days he only takes a few short naps.  He sleeps so well at night that I'm not worried about not having a schedule.  He has slept all night several times.  He is a pretty easy baby, to be honest.

  • Naps here (and nighttime sleep for that matter) are totally different from day to day. Right when I think we're getting some consistency, everything changes. The last two days naps lasted only 5-15 minutes, with just one hour-long nap. For a week before that her naps were 30 minutes to 3 hours and she went down really easily. I'm totally confused and just trying my best to figure out her cues.

  • Some days he'll do two 2+ hour naps and other days he takes multiple 30-40 min naps. No real set schedule, though. I'm kind of banking on daycare getting him more on a schedule.
