TTC after 35

OPK confusion re-visited. What the heck is going on!!?!? **Update**

I POAS (OPK) around 11am.  Faint second line.  I texted my RE and sent her the picture I took of the test.  She called and arranged for me to go in for an u/s tomorrow vs. Monday.

I POAS (OPK) just now (5:30pm).  Absolutely no second line.  None.  Nothing.  Not even a hint of a line.

Did I miss my surge?  Can I miss it that easily??  Should DH and I have sex even though there is a chance we may IUI tomorrow?  I've texted my RE but haven't heard back yet.

I'm so confused.

************
Met my RE at the ultrasound clinic early this morning.  Two follies.  18mm, 24mm (and a 15mm but I'm not expecting that to do anything).  Endometrium looked good.  Received a shot of HCG and will IUI tomorrow afternoon.  It's 48hours earlier than we planned but FX!!!

Re: OPK confusion re-visited. What the heck is going on!!?!? **Update**

  • Hmm....if memory serves, you ovulate 24-36 hours after the surge, so I think you would be okay.  When did you last test before 11 am?  What kind of test are you using?  I don't think OPKs are like pregnancy tests (where a line is a line).  I think it needs to have the darkness/thickness of the test line. I could be wrong though, as I've been out of the game for a while.  Even though it is more expensive, I like to use the digital OPKs just to be sure.  Are you seeing any other signs of ovulation?

  • I don't have any other identifiable signs of ovulation normally.  No CM, no mittleschmerz, etc…

I agree, if memory serves as well, a line is not a line but it is an indication that things are "ramping up".  I don't understand how I could have a faint line this morning then NOTHING this afternoon unless there are no hormones left in my urine.

    I'm using First Response.

I agree.  If this isn't my BFP cycle I'm going to go with a less expensive and more reliable option.

  • Yes the line has to be as dark or darker then the control line. Also wanted to add that you should hold your pee for a few hours before you test so you get concentrated urine.
If you got a faint line this morning it means you didn't have your LH surge. Keep testing early afternoon and evening until you get the darker line.

Good luck and I hope you catch your surge soon

  • Yes, OPKs at different times of the day can be affected by how much water you've drunk, how long you've held your pee, etc. Also, seeing a faint line this morning was not a positive OPK - for an OPK to be positive the test line has to be as dark or darker than the control. You haven't had a positive yet so you likely haven't even surged yet.
