Drive through Christmas lights question

So, if went to one of those things where you drive really slow through Christmas lights, does DS stay in the carseat or what? Because I feel like he wouldn't be able to see, but I don't want to be unsafe, obviously. What do you guys think?

DD was fwd facing and we didn't take her out. I was nervous about being rear ended, even going 4 mph. But I saw pics on FB where people took their kids out for the same event.

We're just planning on switching him to FF for the drive.

I'd prolly put DS ff and put him on the side so he could see out. I'd be worried and rear ending as well cos everyone would be looking at the pretty lights, but I'd be comfortable as long as he was in a seat.
