Do I need to switch?

Hi ladies. I'm new here and I have a question. My baby girl is 10 weeks old. She if formula fed and she stays constipated. Not only does it take her days to poop, but when she does it is hard lumps of poop. I usually have to give her karo/prune juice/ glycerin suppositories, all of which my pedi suggested using if she gets constipated. If one of those doesn't work ,I try the other. Does this mean I need to try a new formula? Or will her digestive system work itself out after awhile?

Re: Do I need to switch?

  • You could try a different formula, of course see what your doctor says. Some kids just have slow digestive systems.

  • Is she having any other problems? I would think hard lumps of poop would be strenuous on her - especially if you're having to help her each time.

  • It can't really hurt to switch formulas, worst case scenario you switch back if there's no change. I've heard good things about nestle good start for constipated infants. I had to try several formulas before we found a good one. We settled on similac alimentum. Be careful how much iron is in the formula, that can easily constipate a LO.
  • I would definitely try switching formulas.

  • I would call my doc and ask for suggestions of other brands/types to try.
