flying with 7 month old twins

So for Christmas we are visiting family in Minnesota and rather than driving 20 hours we are flying. Does anyone have any tips? My parents will be on the same flight as us to help (thank God for loving grandparents!) Thanks in advance!

Re: flying with 7 month old twins

  • My husband and I flew with the boys when they were 7.5 months. The flight there was horrendous, the flight back was awesome :) If you have your parents there, it should be easier, because you can each hand a baby off to someone else to eat, use the bathroom, or just break up the scenery for LOs. It was hard for us because we were each in an aisle seat with a lap baby, and had a stranger next to us.

We brought bottles, pacis, and a couple of non-noisy toys. They fell asleep taking their bottles on takeoff for the return flight and slept the whole way! No luck on the flight out, but you win some you lose some.

  • I learned once to make sure you start bottles after the plane physically leaves the ground and not once you start taxiing (seems obvious until you have a screaming baby in your arms) as it helps to reduce ear pressure but only if they aren't finished with their bottle or feeding. Also double check with the airline that you can sit in the seats you are assigned, we have had to he reseated twice in 4 flights because of the mask thing, a moot point if you are buying seats for the babies. Oh and the earlier you can get to the airport, the less sweating and swearing you will do ;)

  • Good point PP on seating. If they will be lap babies, the babies cannot sit in the same row section. My husband and I each had a lap baby, and we sat "next to" each other in aisle seats across the aisle from each other. Only one lap baby is allowed per row section on account of oxygen masks (there is one extra mask per row section).
