Re: Name Berry's 40 Neglected Namesakes for Girls

  • I like Fidelia, Metta and Septima!

My horrible wretch of a SIL is actually named Florine.  Pretty name but it's forever tainted for me.

  • I kind-of like Septima & Vivia (Vivi is such a cute nn)

Tenley on the list made me laugh after that thread the other day.

    Seconded!

    I do love Zora.

I want to like Edmonia since I have a deep love of Edmund (top boy name right now), but it's a bit too much like the masculine version.

I like Zora, too. I want to like Clementina but it just sounds like chlamydia to me.

I love Zelda, too. DH vetoed it because of the video game, but I love it. Zelda Fitzgerald, the "First Flapper." It's great (though she was kind of troubled).

  • I love Zora, though it reminds me of Zelda too.

  • I like Albion, Asta, Penina, Tenley, and Zora. I used to live on Albion Street! If I used Tenley I'd probably be accused of making it up. I think Zora is a nice alternative to Zoe or Zara.

  • I'm so not the "That's a dog's name!" person, but I can't help it with this one.  I cannot think of the name Asta without thinking of Nick and Nora Charles' dog.

I love Marilla because of the AoGG tie in, but I don't think I would use it.

I love the name Marvel, but partly because it reminds me of "The Trouble with Angels."

I also think someone was asking about Metta not to long ago on this board.

and I'm surprised Zora made the list, it doesn't seem that obscure to me.

Albion is really cute! I think Alby makes a sweet NN. And I also like Tenley, but I kind of like --ley names.

  • I knew an older girl in school named Bessica.

Growing up, my dad had a babysitter named Zora, but she was called Zory. She was like an adoptive grandma that we would visit.

I can't say Penina without thinking panini.

    I like Vivia.

  • S/O Penina....I can't be the only one who watches "Say Yes to the Dress" around here. Isn't that the name of the Italian dress designer with the really elaborate, expensive gowns? I think she spells it Pnina, though.

Of the list, I like Adelina, Varina, Vivia, and somewhat digging Zelia.

Is that the designer with all the tacky see through bodices? I always think of Dolly Parton's line "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap" when the bride buys a dress with a lingerie a top for 20k plus.

  • Nah, i see why these names are "neglected." I didn't like any of them.

  • Tenley- Hmmmm..... I guess it's not as made up as people thought. Still nms but interesting

I kind of like Metta, Penina and Zora
