Advice for dealing with a 13 month old toy stealer

edited November 2013 in Multiples
I'm sure all you multiples mamas are dealing with this in one way or another. The toy stealing in our house is constant. K will come across the room to take a toy away from J. The heartbreaking part is that J has now started holding on extra tight to the toy when she sees sister coming for it. When I redirect K (which is what the books say to do), she gets mad and won't give it up. Since this happens 2,379 times a day, she gets away with it about half the time. J gets upset for a moment, but then moves on to something else. How are you handling this? I understand that this doesn't get better with age, but tips and advice are welcome!

  • I'm dealing with the same thing. E steals from Z all the time. Z now will crawl away with the toy. Is B stealing from A in your situation?

  • Yes, B steals from A! My MoM friend also has a twin B who steals from A. Funny!

  • That is so funny. Those B babies.

  • Unfortunately just redirecting and redirecting. I start making them give the toy back and now finally at 17 months sometimes they will on their own when I tell one to give his brother's toy back. I hate to say it, but my 12 and 9yos still snatch things for the fun of it, not sure that ever goes away...

  • Us too!  Redirecting is really the only thing we've been doing, though...
  • My 10-month-olds are doing this too, but it seems to be pretty equal between the two of them. All I do is give the toy back to the baby who had it and try to put a different but similar toy in the snatcher's hand.....and then say "Hey look, it's Haley's comet!" j/k ;)
