Baby Names

Tuesday

We were married last year on a Tuesday and ever since I have wanted to name a daughter Tuesday.

Too crazy or cute?

Most things that I have read from people named Tuesday is that over all they like the name, but are asked if they were born on a Tuesday.  annoying by no major teasing.   I think I would also include a 'normal' middle name so she could use it instead if she wanted.

Thoughts?

Re: Tuesday

  • I think it's fine- I like quirky names-- but I am sure you are going to get a lot of Wednesday Addams comments.

I am open about my love for Tuesday, but keep quiet that I also love December (girl) and August (boy)  I don't want people to know I am completely nuts.

What-- August is an awesome name!  It's on my list.

  • I seriously adore Tuesday (also Sunday, but clearly that doesn't hold the meaning to you that Tuesday does). If our LN didn't rhyme with Day, I'd be trying to get DH on board. And as a mom of a kid with an unusual name, I say go for it! Using a more normal MN is a great idea, IMO (Tallulah's MN is Jane for that reason, and also a family connection). I think it also helps that Tuesday has a famous connection; people have at least heard of it as a name because of Tuesday Weld. If you and your husband love it---go for it! It's adorable and it sounds like you've even done some research on what people named Tuesday think of their name. It's by no means an inconsiderate choice for a child.

I love august and I don't even think it is that strange, but people might think so if all my names are day and months ;)   Haha
  • I'm personally not a fan of "days of the week" or "season" names.

The month August was named for Emperor Augustus. So to me it's first and foremost a Name over a Month.

  • I think it's a nice name. The namesake is just slightly cheesy but not terrible. I would use it only as a middle name.

  • In high school I was a bit of a name nerd and I was determined to name a future daughter Tuesday. I thought it was the epitome of a cool name then. Now I don't know if I'd ever be brave enough to use it in the first name spot personally. I'd definitely middle name it without too much hesitation, especially if it had personal meaning to me like it does to you. I wouldn't side eye a child or adult named Tuesday, but it definitely is different and there are some people who might think it's too different.

I still like it, but it's definitely a GP name for me.

Thank you! Thought I was crazy, seems odd to me as well. Snow gets bashed but Tuesday is cute?

  • I love it and would definitely use Tueaday with your special connection
  • I wouldn't ever use it but I do love it! It's a very cute name. Though I don't like how long it is without there being room for a nick name.

I agree. I'm shocked it's getting so much love actually. I would totally side-eye it if I saw it on my class roaster.

Tuesday would be a fun, quirky MN though!

  • Another one in the nay camp. Makes me think of celebs picking a new noun name to be cool and different. No one will know why her parents picked it as your daughter lives out her life, and I imagine a number of folks will side eye it. A self-selected group of name nerds is not necessarily an indicator of majority opinion IRL.

But if you don't mind the side eyes, and the people who will feel bad for her being given a weird name like they do little North and Apple, go for it

  • I think it's fine in the MN spot but yeah, I'm in the "It's weird for a first name" group.

I don't see August as being grouped with the seasons/days of the week bunch because it's derived from Augustus, which has a rich history.

  • I think its really odd personally.  Most people won't know the connection and it just seems like a totally random word name.   I think it would work much better as a mn.

I love August and see it more of a name with Historical connections than a month name.

To me, it's not even remotely appealing, but it's certainly not the worst or weirdest name I've heard of.  I could see a kid being named Tuesday for a special reason, or having a special meaning.  It's just not my thing.

I think I prefer Tuesday over names like Braiyleey.

This. Tuesday is NMS because of it being a day of the week. But it's way better than butchering a name.
  • I work with a Tuesday, she's in her mid twenties.  She gets the usual, I have a meeting on Tuesday with Tuesday thing a lot, but not constantly.

My dad died on a Tuesday.
    I don't like Tuesdays.

But in general I don't get the appeal of month/season/days of the week names.

Same here.  I don't mind a lot of noun names.  At least they mean something, rather than being completely made up or spelled uniquely for the hell of it or whatever.  It's totally NMS and I would probably stick it in the MN spot, but I don't have the aversion to it a lot of PPs do.

I am raking my memory here because it's been like 20 years, but when I was a freshman in college there was a girl in my dorm named TuesDay minus the -ay part (her name, as you can imagine, is super Googelable, so that's why I'm circumventing the spelling).  So Tuesday as a first name doesn't surprise me as much as it would otherwise.

  • It's a GP name for me, but I'm not sure I could really do it. I think of Tuesday Weld, which makes it more "namey" to me.

  • Tuesday-
    cute:  yes
will she get teased for a variety of reasons for the rest of her life :  yes

  • I love it as a MN. FN, no way.
  • Middle name if you must, otherwise, no.

  • Awful, awful, awful! Instead of using a normal middle name, just make that her actual first name. If you must, delegate Tuesday to the MN spot, but even that is horrible.
