Talk to me about sbish fitteds for overnight

I've been gone for a while cuz my long battle with recurring mold lead me to finally give up cd-ing for a while.  However, I'm happy to announce that the puzzle has been solved and we're back in cd's!  The hot water line on our washer was clogged, so the diapers were being washed in exclusively cold water and not much of it.,,yuck!

Anyway....I'm back and have a question about sbish fitteds.  Our current overnight diaper is a bamboo prefold with fleece liners and a hemp doubler.  It holds up to my heavy wetter all night, but is crazy bulky.  My ds is a side sleeper and has a hard time getting comfortable in this combo thanks to the bulk.  We had to use sposies for a few nights recently and I was shocked when he actually slept through the night without needing to be rocked back to sleep several times.  I'm wondering if that's due to him being more comfy in the trim sposie.  The downside to the sposies is that we have to change him half way through the night or there will be crazy leaks in the morning.

I'm wondering if a fitted can last all night and how trim they are.  The sbish seem to be the most popular, but I'm open to other brands as well.  It would be a bonus if they had a stay dry liner.  Thanks for the info!

I think any overnight diaper is going to be pretty bulky. But a fitted will give you some options as to where the bulk is, relative to a prefold. I also like that there is a nice amount of fabric where the waist flaps overlap, wince DS is also a side/stomach sleeper.

The Sbish snapless is a velour fitted that comes with two doublers, one slightly shorter than the other, and I think they are some kind of hemp blend. I use both. I also use a fleece liner. And another hemp doubler (from GMD) outside the fitted. Wool on top of all of that. This setup usually lasts all night, from about 9 pm to 7am. Very rarely I will change his diaper in the middle of the night -- if he is sick and wakes for an extended period, for example -- I find he will fall back asleep more easily if I put him in a dry diaper. Otherwise he is fine with just the one diaper.

You can also get Sbish with snaps, but I think they are sized. We have a couple of these where the diaper itself is the same hemp blend as the doublers, and the doublers also snap into the diaper. They were pretty trim as ON diapers go. But maybe I'm just remembering how they fit just before DS grew out of them. I'm sure they seemed bulky when he was tiny.

I should mention that we only started using the Sbish as an overnight diaper around the time DS was about 5-6 months. Before that his wetness sensitivity was such that he would wake up any time he peed. Even if he was wearing certain brands of sposies. We finally found a brand of sposies that he was comfortable in overnight so we did that for a while, then gradually transitioned to ON fitteds as we experimented to find out what would work for him. I suspect that at some point he just started to pee less frequently at night, so he is probably quite dry most of the night and then is wet closer to morning.

ETA: I got my fabrics all wrong. See posts below, they're probably right.
  • SBish snapless are actually Bamboo terry outer and a bamboo fleece inserts on the inside. Regular Sbish are all made out of bamboo fleece. The snapless is the trimmest of the two, but for us we'd still need a hemp insert in there under the two bamboo ones overnight. We now use Twinkie Tush Night Nights ON since they are pretty bullet proof. However, super bulky.

  • Sorry to post and run.  I had to work an overnight shift, so I just got back to check your posts.

So it sounds like the verdict is that the fitteds will be slightly less bulky than our current prefold combo.  Maybe I'll just buy one to give it shot and take it from there. Thanks ladies.
