There's a Measles outbreak in my province right now. It's so scary that LO can't be vaccinated and has to rely on everyone else getting vaccinated for protection. My 3 and 6 year olds are up to date with their immunizations and so are DH and I. He just went today to update his whooping cough/tetanus immunizations along with my 6 year old for his last dose of MMR. We have always gone as per the pedi's schedule. I hate that these diseases are making a comeback.... It's such an easy solution!!

It terrifies me that these diseases are making a comeback and angers me because THEY DONT HAVE TO BE MAKING A COMEBACK! Argh.
Meh I don't put rotavirus or chicken pox or flu on the same level as the others tbh.
Im only stabby about the third world country type stuff (again - moderation..
Anyone sensing a theme here?).
My kid is fully vaxxed on schedule but I don't get stabby if folks don't give their kid a flu shot. I may get annoyed and think you're an idiot but I don't want to punch you. mmr, dpt....i want to punch you.
Yeah, my pedi said the one thing she'll do if people want is move Hep B to a later appointment where there aren't as many shots, since it would have to be a VERY weird set of circumstances for an infant to get it.
I will admit to being one who clicked the "pick and choose" option. Although we are only skipping rotavirus after talking to the pedi and him saying it would be totally fine since DS isn't in daycare. We're doing the rest on a delayed schedule. I am very thankful to have a doctor that has done research on his own and is willing to have discussions beyond "this is what required". I don't want to start an argument; I just wanted to be honest.
This is sort of us but we only delay a bit because we do them one at a time, and we skipped rotavirus. By a year our son was caught up and from here on out he will basically be on schedule. In the first year we did one a month basically.
I picked the second option but technically I guess I should have picked the third.
We have also had measles and whooping cough in this area. Insane amount of anti vaxxers. Vaxing is the only thing I've been actively and repeatedly shamed for actually.
I think it's hilarious that the organic toilet placenta lady loves BK chicken nuggets. And that her kids are named Fox and Azalea.

Proudly pro-sugar (and maple syrup) and pro-vaccine here. Nothing could ever sway me from pro-vaccine. Not even if there's fake sugar in it.
I write history, including history of childhood, and nothing there makes me want to repeat the horrors of childhood disease from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

If anyone shames your for vaccinating you should seriously punch them in the face. Shame them right back.
"I'm really enjoying living in the 21st century where I don't have to have 8 kids and hope some of them survive childhood disease... I'll take a living kid, thanks."
What infuriates me most about the autism thing (besides being totally stupid and not true!) is that you're basically saying YOU WOULD RATHER LET YOUR CHILD DIE THAN LET THEM BE AUTISTIC. Like, that's so seriously fucked up. Autism isn't fatal, and I'm pretty sure I'd rather have a living autistic kid than lose my little one to smallpox or whatever.
It doesn't bother me in the slightest now, but I did feel sensitive about it with my older kid because its SO skewed around here. I fucking love vaccines dude. Unapologetically.
And yeah the autism fear thing is so pathetically gross on so many levels!!!
@Ramy3695 I totally didn't mean to knock encapsulation, but looking back it definitely came out that way. I was referring to anti-vacc peeps as cray cray, which I stand by. I wish I had done this and fully intend to with the next pregnancy.
Since I came out of the woodwork today, I'll respond. We vaccinate. I actually had to get an MMR booster when the little miss was born because I lost my rubella immunity.

I have a special (new, not special special as in the bad term) class at our school this year called SAIL for autistic kids across the hall from me. The kids are awesome, in no way shape or form would I not vaccinate in order to not have an autistic child, those kids are fucking awesome! They are sweet and helpful and smart! They may be loud, but that's what makes them fun! They are also severely autistic, and it's something I've never encountered before. I have had students with autism but very mildly.
An ex-friend of mine told another lady who has a child with autism that she "shouldn't be so sure that vaccines didn't cause that".
You can see why she isn't a friend anymore. I'm sorry but to tell a mother that she caused something like that is unforgivable in my eyes. Makes me mad just thinking about it.
ETA: not that autism is something horrible, but it's still not something I would like to be told I caused. Especially when there's no evidence to back it up.
Tangent: Did anyone watch the HBO John Adams miniseries and see the representation of how they handled the smallpox vaccinations back then? The mental image of that always pops back up when the vax topic comes up. Makes me so glad for modern medicine.

My placenta is still in my freezer. I never got up the urge to do anything with it so I should probably throw it out. I had a homebirth, so am pretty crunchy and I fully vaccinate (except I delayed Hep B at birth). I respectfully had it out recently with my mom's best friend who is my chiropractor and like family to me.She is very anti-vaccine, and thinks if we maintain a healthy diet and chiropractic, it will boost your immune system naturally so if you do encounter one of these diseases it won't hurt you. Her kids were/are unvaccinated. She thinks they are full of toxins that can harm you and she believes it could cause autism. I respectfully explained to her that I trusted science and that I choose autism over a dead baby any day. Apparently the immunology they teach you in chiropractic school is science fiction.
@Asbromle it's not that women can lose it after childbirth. Some people gradually lose immunity over time, but won't realize it until they have blood work. That's why many women find out during pregnancy. You can't get the booster while you're pregnant, so it has to be given after childbirth.
At least I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I'm not an expert on the subject.
So... they did blood work and that's how you found out? Like just typical blood work? I'm so confused. I wonder if I had this blood work done. I still need to post a pic for you
@Asbromle I found out through the standard prenatal blood tests, I didn't do anything special. My doctor mentioned it at my next appointment and didn't bring it up again until we discussed registering at the hospital. Dr. Google says it is common and they're not sure why it happens. So, same as everyone else
My SIL is pregnant and due in February. She is leaning towards not vaccinating. She said she gets all of her info from a board like this one, expect its for anti-vax, anti-circ, med-free only birth type people. I need to get the name of it, cause I'd love to lurk that board. Just crazy ass nonsense imo. We are going by the cdc schedule as far as our vaccinations.

It's cool and all that your Dr. does his/her on research, the only way I would feel comfortable with it is if it was peered reviewed and more than one article type thing.
I agree. I am one who doesn't like to trust any gov agency or doctor automatically. DH and I did our own research, so having a doc to confirm and discuss was helpful in making sure what we found was legit.
Was your research peer reviewed? That's part of the problem with the argument against vaccines. People read blogs and other websites that are in no way credible sources and cite them. I couldn't even site a website for a high school paper, why is it ok when you're deciding about your child's health and safety? I can make a website that says the sky is red and get a bunch of people to agree with me, still don't make that shit true.
And autism has been around forever. It's just in the past few years that we've seen a spike in identification. Because of laws like NCLB and IDEA mandating that school districts identify students with delays and provide them with services. Autism occurs on a spectrum, meaning some children have autism and have mild symptoms. You know that awkward kid in 3rd grade that everyone made fun of? He was probably autistic. The kid who would put his head down in reading and sleep? He may have had trouble concentrating and may have been on the spectrum.

I clicked doing all on schedule, but there's one that Luke can't get for medical reasons. And we got a little behind, so he was closer to 5m than 4m for that round.
ETA: Browsed through some of the other replies - the one he can't get is rotavirus, so I guess that's NBD.

@pantsarella Yes, I don't consider random internet searching to be research. And any internet searching that I did, I made sure that there were legit research articles cited. If I'm not going to blindly trust a doctor, I sure as he'll am not going to blindly trust some internet blog.
If you've got credible sources, by all means share them. I'm sure everyone would like to read them.

Side note: We told my OB in the beginning if they needed to do the Genetic test on our (then unborn) baby we only wanted to know about possible heart defects. NOT autism. Because we didn't care.
Maybe I missed something but I'm pretty sure there is no prenatal genetic test for autism.

I'm not sure why you're so upset. I said we skipped one vaccine that not all offices even do. I'm not going to go any further on this.
When did you get the impression that I was upset? I'm not. You can make whatever choices you want for your child. I was honestly asking because I have yet to find a credible source saying that vaccines are anything but good. So, if you have credible sources I would be interested to read them. That's all I was saying.

@Erika Johnson I still had my measles and mumps immunity, so I'm not sure. I only needed the rubella portion, and I had to wait until little miss was born. My doctor didn't say anything about breastfeeding, and she knew I was.
I need to figure out this quoting thing. And a siggy. My apologies.
