How is his appetite? If he's getting most of his calories from milk, he won't be hungry for food. I would cut the milk back to just a cup at mealtimes.
Addy drinks milk, water, or very watered-down apple juice. Some days she drinks a ton of milk and other days she barely drinks any milk. I figure it evens out. But, she still eats really good, so I don't think it interferes with that.
I agree that too much milk consumption can interfere with their appetitie...so if he's not eating well, I'd cut out some milk. I also agree that around 16oz of milk(dairy) is about all they need in a day, according to my ped. If he's eating normal, I'd almost say if it isn't broke don't fix it! I wouldn't offer juice to get him to drink something other than milk...it's empty calories.
I've heard that more than 16-18 oz of milk can cause problems with iron absorption. I think thats if its REGULARLY happening. I think a day here or there isnt a problem though.
I dont really post much here but I have gotten great advice from this board. I just recently asked my pediatrician how much milk my daughter should be drinking (she will be 2 Feb. 26) because she is sometimes difficult with drinking. She said she should still be drinking between 16 and 24 oz a day. She normally only gets to around 18 oz.
