Teething? Cold? Both?

Hi all.  I am FTM and I have no clue about some of this stuff.  Let me give you a run down of my child so you know where I am coming from.
My child had thrush and we had other problems and he is now a formula fed baby.  He was treated with two medications for thrush and it took gentian violet to get rid of it.  He also ended up with a cold (sneezing and little cough and choking on clear mucus).  About 3.5 weeks ago we were told he had an ear infection also. but still no fever. they gave him ammoxicilin.  about a week later we went back in and he still had the ear infection but the mucus went down a bit the sneezing and coughing were less.  So he is now finishing up ogmitan.  Please note that he has never cried from ear pain or tugged his ears or seemed agitated it at all.  If he never sounded mucusy i would have never known he was sick

Right now... he only sounds mucusy in his throat to where he will choke some times or spit up his bottles once a day.  the mucus is worse int he mornings when he wakes up.  there is nothing in his nose.  He has moments where he sneezes three times in a row and he coughs here and there.  He drools so much we are almost on 3 bibs a day.  He sucks his bottom lip and he loves to put his hands and random things in his mouth.  His formula is soy because I have a milk allergy so I am playing that safe and he always spit up the other when we gave it to him.

I would go with a cold he has never had a fever since he was born and no runny nose.  and as I said the cough is very rare.  I should also note that he sleeps the whole night through.

Any ideas? Teething? Cold? Both?

  • I am just wondering why he seems to be having mucus in his throat if the doctors say he does not have a cold.

  • Here is the thing.  I keep taking him in.  He was in last week. I told her how he was sounding.  All I got was "he still has an ear infection here is a stronger antibiotic".  he still sounds mucusy a week later.  I guess I am trying to figure out if that could be from teething... My doctor wont even check about teeth even though I told her me and my siblings had our teeth by 6 months.  After I posted my original post I tried to suck some out of his throat and all I got was saliva and no actual mucus.  although I was not sticking the bulb clear down his throat.  And I tried to clear his nose but again there was nothing there.

I am sorry to keep going.  I guess I am stressed.  I know he seems well and I am so grateful for that.  If he did not sound so mucusy in his throat and did not choke once in a while I would not be as concerned.
  • I do not see teeth yet but he is chewing everything....A friend of mine has a son a month older than mine and he was/is the same way. minus the mucus sound
  • Sounds like teething. Some will be teething forever before getting teeth. Not much you can do for teething. DD loves frozen washcloths.

  • Allergies? Do you have pets in your house?

My cousin's DS was having a lot of the symptoms you're describing, and it turned out he was allergic to their dog. Just a thought.
