Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Doesn't like eating solids

Hello Everyone.  I wanted to see if anyone else was having this same issue.  My little guy is almost 7.5 months now and doesn't really like solids at all!  We puree our own fruits and veggies.  Starting at 6 months we have tried avocados, bananas, carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, apple sauce and this week we are trying green beans.  He just doesn't seem to like any of it though.  It's hard to even get him to open his mouth :(  Does anyone have any suggestions on getting a baby excited to eat?  We put him in his high chair and give him a spoon while we eat dinner, and he loves to chew on his spoon then.  But when there is food on it he wants nothing to do with it.

Right now this isn't really concerning me.  He is still able to get plenty of breast milk throughout the day (either from me or a bottle while I'm at work).  But I am getting nervous that this "phase" won't end.  Any suggestions would be great!

Re: Doesn't like eating solids

  • Have you tried just going to finger foods? We do BLW, and DS has loved it since day 1. And I find it easy, and it's fun to watch him go at it.

  • DS has tasted 3 foods so far & wants nothing to do with it. I even let him play with the apple sauce & he did not enjoy getting his hands dirty. Just keep trying!!

Does he put other things in his mouth?  If so and you're reluctant to try finger food, maybe one of these feeder things: https://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Pack-Fresh-Feeder-Colors/dp/B000GK5XY2/ref=sr_1_6?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1384379640&sr=1-6&keywords=baby+feed

We use it for D occasionally, because it gives him some independence and control, but we don't worry about him choking.

Our guy loves banana in the mesh feeder! He also likes table foods. Have you tried serving the purées warm?

  • Does he seem interested in watching you eat? Does he try to reach out for your food? If not, then he's probably just not ready. But it will happen soon enough. Before 7 months, my LO seemed to want nothing to do with solids. When she turned 7 months, she suddenly developed an interest, like from one day to the next. She's only into purees right now, but she always wants to grab my food, and stares at me when I'm eating. Sometimes, though, I try to feed her and she won't want it. Depends on her mood and if she's tired.
