Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What is your 7 month old eating!?!?

Wondering on when to start certain things like yougurt, meats, cheese, and things like puffs. Right now my daughter has about 25 ounces of formula a day. For breakfast she has 2-3 tablespoons of oatmeal along with 2-3 cubes of fruit ( I make my own baby food, i use the trays that are like ice cube trays), Lunch is 2-3 cubes of a veg or fruit however i want to switch that to yogurt soon. Dinner is 2-3 cubes of veg and 2-3 tablespoons of oatmeal. Does this seem like to much/to little? I know most people recommend to feed them until they don't want anymore but sometimes i feel like my daughter would just keep going lol. Advice and your daily meal schedules please :)

Right now, mostly purees and he just started getting the hang of finger foods the last week or so. I've already given him meat (part of a meatball and some shredded chicken). I would love to give him yogurt and cheese but we think he is still MPI, so I'm holding off a bit. He definitely doesn't get much in the way of solids, maybe like 4-5 oz puree total a day and a very small amount of finger food. I think around 8 months we'll try to move him up to 3 "meals" a day. He gets 15-16 oz. in bottles at daycare and nurses 3-4 times, so best guess he is getting 24-28 oz. in a day. He has had some issues with solids (gas, etc.) which is one reason we haven't given him that much - he'd probably eat like 3 cups of puree if I let him, and then I would be dealing with the aftermath, lol.

I think as long as the formula intake is around 25 oz. still, you're good.

Her current favorites are oatmeal, turkey and pumpkin and pears.

My girl eats a lot of solid foods somedays and others not so much. I wonder somedays if I'm giving her too much as she 'asks' for more but I figure she knows.

I think it's probably pretty close to what you are describing for the amount, I haven't gotten to making it ahead of time so I'm not sure how many cubes of food she gets.
  • I'm impressed by how much solids your daughter eats! My daughter is a big girl, around 29" and 21 lbs now. She got a little bit of a late start to solids. She drinks 32oz of formula in a day. Then I feed her twice, sometimes 3 times depending on what our day is like. In the morning I usually give her 1 Tbs of yogurt mixed with 1 Tbs fruit puree. Then for dinner I'll give her 1 cube of veggies and 1 Tbs of fruit puree or more if she wants. Sometimes she eats a third snack in the middle of the day, 1 Tbs of fruit or veggie.

  • My daughter was 17.1 lbs and 27 1/2 inches at her 6 month check and she turned 7 months on the 6th of this month, we go to the dr tomorrow but i'm assuming shes another lb or so. She def eats a lot but she also moves a lot lol! She loves being on the floor with her toys and rolling/crawling around so i think she builds up quite an appetite!
  • My son is 6 months. He eats every type of fruit and veggie and we are now introducing meats and spices. Last night he had peppered chicken and LOVED it. He loves cinnamon sweet potatoes too. He eats puffs (so do I they are great!) and teething biscuits, but his favorite finger food snack are the waffle wheels. He has 35-40 oz of formula and 2.5-3 containers of baby food a day + oatmeal with breakfast and dinner. He is a large boy-25lbs at his 6 month check. He lets me know when he doesn't want anymore, and as long as I pay attention to that he doesn't spit up excess food or over eat. You know your baby better than anyone else (:

I give my son everything! He eats what we eat (to an extent.. obviously we're not giving him chips and salsa lol). He's always more interested in what we eat than in any of his food. We started this around 6 months and he's about 9 months now. I've never had an issue with anything I've given him. I've stayed away from stuff that are on the high allergy list, like nuts or strawberries. I bought a baby bullet and now I feel like its such a waste because I really only used it for like a month. Baby led weaning is awesome if your baby seems like they can handle it! Just a different perspective on feeding!
  • My guy is 6.5 months. His ped said the only things off limits are milk, egg whites, honey, and fish.

Can I ask how you did the chicken? My LO has no teeth yet.. She's six months and has been eating veggie and fruit purees since about 18 weeks. I tried blending chicken the other night and putting but together with sweet potato and pumpkin but I think the consistency was too thick because she seemed to gag as if it was sticking to the roof of her mouth?

  • My son has no teeth either, so I get the side-eyed look from a lot of people when I feed him things like fruit or biscuits or puffs. He showed interest in what I was eating, so I took a chunk of my chicken (skinless/sauceless because some pre-made sauces have honey) and held it while he chewed & sucked. He got used to the flavor, so I ground some up with broth and peppered it and spoon fed him. I got him used to textures by sharing what I had (apple, pear, etc) because he was always more interested in what I was eating vs what was on his spoon. He didn't like the texture of an actual pear, but a pear with cinnamon he would eat, so seasoning may help!

This, for the most part.  I give him cereal and about 1.5-2 oz of fruit plus about 6oz of formula for breakfast, has just formula at his midday meal, then he gets a 2oz veggie plus formula with his 3pm meal.  He gets another cereal meal at 7:30, plus a 6oz bottle, plus I give him a portion of whatever I'm having for dinner around 6.  He has eaten everything from steak to salmon to chicken to liver, plus a ton of veggies, and just tried mac and cheese for the first time.  He's got a crazy mouthful of teeth, so Ive started giving him small pieces of food to chew, in addition to his purees.
