Green poop question for all you experts

Ok so all this talk about lactose intolerance and milk allergies and green poop has me questioning my own LO's bowel movements. This is the first time I have ever formula fed and my LO's poops are a dark green. He doesn't seem to be in pain and they are the right consistency. I have to say, though, they smell like rotten eggs and his gas smells just as bad. I don't remember my other kid's breast milk poops ever smelling at all. I have to give him gas drops every once in awhile but that's about it. Does green poop always constitute an allergy? Should I bring it up to my pediatrician or let it slide? Ahhh why is formula poop so friggin' difficult!!!

Re: Green poop question for all you experts

  • My LO is formula fed, her poop is green and really smelly.  It's normal.

  • I was a daycare teacher for 7 years and formula babies poop was always stinkier than BF babies. It was usually darker and thicker, too. Always voice your concerns to your pedi - I just play a doctor on the Internet ;)

  • Whew! Thanks guys! So glad to hear my stinky kid is normal lol.
  • I actually asked the ped today about color and she said anything in the greenish yellow to brown range is normal. If you see a creamy or grey or blood or anything really odd in color then to bring baby in. Other than that it's normal.
