Baby Showers

Best and worst baby shower games?

Planning is hard! Lol. I reallyyyy want to plan the best, most perfect, and unforgettable baby shower for my little sister. (Ok so that's a little overdramatic but you get my point...) I'd like to get opinions on what people generally like and dislike. So what is the best/your favorite baby shower game? And the worst/your least favorite game? Mine are:

Best: Baby Charades. You can't go wrong with that. At least I don't think you can...

Worst: Guessing the smushed candy bar in a diaper game. 'Cause that's just gross...

Re: Best and worst baby shower games?

  • Best: Gift Bingo

Worst: Guessing the baby food out of the diaper game.
  • Best: gift bingo
    Worst: tasting baby food

  • Best: paint a onesie or sleeper (or use iron ons), gift bingo, my water broke (freeze ice cubes with small plastic babies or baby related items in them, put ice cube in plastic cup and give to each guest, the winner is the one whose ice cube melts first and they say 'my water broke')

Worst: guessing what the white powder is (without tasting or touching it figure out if it's flour, baby powder, baking soda, baking powder)
  • Best game I've used at a shower was complete the nursery rhyme. If you use really obscure lines (even from well known rhymes!) it makes it harder. Even the crusty grannies had fun with this one at my sisters shower.

Worst game: Don't really think there is one. I mean, everyone has likes and dislikes, but I hate the melted candy bar in a diaper game, and my friend REALLY wanted to play it. My little sister wanted the taste the baby food game, which I think is gross as well. This is a party for the MTB, and I think the games should reflect what she likes. If a guest doesn't like the game, they can sit it out. I don't play those games if they are at showers I attend! I just eat cake and gossip! :)

This. The candy bars in the diapers. So gross. Although, I must admit, the last shower I went to that had this game, I did win. Because I love candy bars. This shower was also for a second time mom and my husband was in the other room at DTB's diaper party. It was a trifecta of tacky.

I agree with this.  Personally, I think games at showers are stupid and a waste of time.

  • The best game I have seen involved a big poster with excerpts from about 20 popular/classic children's books. Basically the hostesses printed a picture of the main character from each of the 20 books. Guests got 1 point each for naming the character, the author and the title. Then they gave a prize for most correct titles, most correct authors, most correct characters and most correct overall. This was the only game they played. It was terrific. I was pretty horrible at it, because my family didn't have most those books growing up but it was still fun. At this shower they also did the diaper raffle, but it was an "unannounced" diaper raffle. (i.e. they didn't mention it on the invite, but once everyone got there tehy said that each person who brought a package of diapers was entered to win a prize.). Kind of a nice compromise for those of you who like the idea o the diaper raffle to balance out those who think its silly suggest the guests bring diapers.

My SILs had a set of games set out that people could choose to participate in as guests arrived. Write a funny message on a diaper, decorate a piece of a mobile, and blindfolded, timed diaper changes on a teddy bear. Some people played them, others didn't. Before gifts they did guess the baby stories. My mom and MIL wrote out short stories from when DH and I were little and guests had to guess who the story was about after they were read aloud.

Baby charades is pretty much just like regular charades except it'll be totally baby related. I'll have a bunch of movie titles like "three men and a baby", song titles like "baby got back" baby books like "goodnight moon", and phrases like "my water broke" on little pieces of paper and guests will choose one from a hat or bowl and act it out. I like it because guests can choose wether they participate or not. And if they choose to participate, they can always join in whenever and stop playing whenever they want.
  • Best: bingo
Worst: guess how big moms belly is (So embarrassing for the mom)

  • I saw a shower where they printed out pictures of close up faces of women and got points for guessing if they were in labor or from a horror movie, not a traditional game but funny and I'm using it for my coed shower.
worst game is tasting baby food
  • Just had my shower at a restaurant~4o people.. The best...gift bingo, price is right items, baby basket w various items look at them and then the guest have to write down what they remember. Worst: safety pin game....cant say baby, cant cross your legs, arm. Its really not fun esp if you have competitive family and friends...i opted out from the get..absolutely HATE this game...
  • Best game?  Set a timer to go off while opening presents, person whose present is being opened gets a gift.  I like it because it requires no participation whatsoever from me as a guest.

I despise the clothespin/diaper pin game.

These seems like this would take a long time, though.  I tend to be on the "give me a drink and let me socialize" end of things.  But if games are done, make them QUICK.  Showers that go on too long because of too many games or games that are too long ... I start looking at my watch and just want them to get a MOVE on.
  • @VOR The beauty of the baby charades game is that guests don't have to participate if they don't want to. We only have 2 actual games planned that will go by super quick. The baby charades is just for if some of the guests get bored and want to play. They can play a few rounds and then go off and socialize if they'd rather and then start back up if they feel like it later on. Kinda just a filler if needed.
  • Best: Baby Item Price is Right!  My best friend just did this at my shower last weekend, and it was super fun and everyone got a laugh!  She chose about 10 items, found the average price, and made cards w/ a photo and name of the item for each guest.  We each guessed the price, and then she read off the correct prices at the end.  You got a point for each dollar you were off from the correct price, and the person w/ the least amount of points won!

Worst: The diaper candy bar game
