I guess i suck as a parent

So I don't post much here and I believe Ive posted something like this before.  My DD 27 months loves to play with me.  We color together, watch tv, read books, and play in general.  BUT when grandma comes in the picture, DD tells me "bye" and cries when she leaves grandma and actually prefers her over me.  She also hates to leave daycare most days- not always- but most of the time.  I feel like I must suck as a parent.  Does anyone else experience this?

My son definitely loves his grandparent time! I know it can hurt at times but I would just take comfort in knowing she loves her other childcare providers. You're always going to be Mom and she undoubtedly finds you special even if it doesn't always seem that way.

My mother-in-law lives down the street from us so my son sees her all the time. If he's mad at us or not getting his way he says "I go to grandma's house!". It's frustrating, I know.

Aww you aren't a bad mommy!  DD loves her Mimi.  When we visit Mimi I am pretty non-existent as they just get into their own world together.  When it is time to leave DD will cry and say "I don't want to go home, I want to stay at Mimi's!".  However, when left overnight with Mimi, my mom says at bed time she is always crying for me or daddy.  Kids at this age only think about the "right now" so if what they are doing is enjoyable they don't want to leave.  I wouldn't worry too much, you'll always be mommy!

My son went through a phase where he screamed and cried leaving daycare to come home with me.  It sucked, but it wasn't personal.  He was just having a good time at daycare.  He still loves me.  Toddlers go through phases of preference for people.  Right now, my daddy's boy has been switching to mommy ("I don't want my daddy!").  It hurts DH, but he also gets its a phase.

Aw.  I can understand your feelings but try to look at it from another angle.  You've raised a daughter who is confident in receiving and giving love.  That's huge.  And it's awesome!  She loves you so much and you are most definitely her "home base".  Feel good that she is self assured enough to branch out and leave your side.  Also, you know she is being treated well when you aren't with her.  That is a huge gift.

FWIW, I turn into the "lady who will get yogurt or change diapers" when the grandparents are around.  My son has no interest in me if they are here.
