Stroller advice for soon to be mom of twins!

Hey Ladies,

This is my first time on the multiples board but I was wondering if any of you could offer me some advice on strollers. Our twins will be arriving March 2014 and I know we have time but for some reason this subject really stresses me out.  Any of you have the contours options LT Tandem or contours optima tandem? We also think we're going to get the chicco carseats and maybe get the Chicco cortina together stroller. Should we be looking at other brands? We don't want to spend too much money but want the best option for our LO's.

Thanks!!

Re: Stroller advice for soon to be mom of twins!

  • (thanks to calicarly I believe it was she convinced me since she kept posting about it in the past lol) kolcraft optima ( it's the model with the polka dot fabric I can't remember the model name exactly but it's the softest fabric ever and had the cup holders so I went with that haha those cup holders are important ) I love the stroller it was easy to assemble, has so many seating options, is slim enough to maneuver around tight spaces and isn't super heavy. However I don't like how it folds up. I find it to be a pain in the rear and it doesn't fold up super slim unless you remove both seats so it does take up a lot of trunk space. The basket underneath is kind of goofy too it I don't think they describe it acuratly because it doesn't hold like what they show. And I do have to say the seats don't feel like they will hold much weight. But overall I like it and am glad we went with it. Now keep in mind it's a first impressions review from me as we assembled it and took it for a trial run with our son to see how we liked it around our neighborhood until babies get here but it will work perfect for us when we do use it with them.

  • Congrats!  I used the Baby Trend Double Snap and Go for the first 10 months of my girls lives and it was super simple.  I have the Chicco Keyfit 30 car seats and they don't "snap" in the frame, they sit on top and have a strap to hold them in place and I was cool with that.  Since they outgrew their car seats in 10 months, I had to get a new stroller (and new car seats) and chose the Contours Optima. I really love it.  It navigates well and the seating options are great.  I keep that stroller in my car at all times and at home I have a BOB RE double jogger for walking and jogging.  That thing is a beast to lug in and out of the car on a regular basis.

  • We have a Joovy Twin Roo stroller frame which clicks into our Chicco seats (the frame also works w Peg and Graco seats).

When they're older, well get a BOB duallie (for walks and running). I don't know if we'll need anything other than that yet.

A mistake I made the first time around w my singleton was buying a stroller before I needed it.

  • I have the Chicco Cortina Together stroller and I do like it a lot, but it didn't fit into the trunk of the car I was driving at the time (Pontiac G5; had to trade cars w/ DH until we get a van), so keep that in mind if you happen to drive a smaller vehicle (or have an awkwardly shaped trunk).

  • We have the Baby Jogger City Select and also had Chicco bucket car seats.  The stroller is definitely worth the splurge!

  • I would encourage you to go to a BBB or BRU and test drive some strollers. My SIL had the Chicco double and it was so bulky and hard to turn with both kids. When I went and "test drove" some doubles at BBB I totally fell in love with the city select double stroller!! It doesn't seem like a double at all and manuvers very well! Plus it has so many add on features like trays and cupholders! And it takes to infant carrier adapters that go with pretty much any brand infant carrier!

  • for our Chicco car seats we got a double snap n go. pure awesomeness.
Then we got a cheaper one for their "big boy" stroller. But we'll use the sng until they switch car seats or it breaks (we're the third owner...)

  • We did the Baby Trend Universal Snap n' Go for the first 7 months. So light and easy and in my opinion the best option because if they're sleeping, you just leave them and don't have to deal with car seat adaptors, etc.

Now we have the Baby Jogger City Select. Totally a ton of money and totally worth it! Love that thing.

  • Thanks for the advice and brands! I definitely need to go test some out and now I know which ones to try! Thanks ladies :)
  • My twins are also due in March so we haven't put it to the test yet but we got the Graco Duoglider stroller and the Graco Snugride 30 car seats.

  • I have the Joovy Roo Twin snap stroller which was recommended to me by the guy at Buy Buy Baby. Its shorter then the baby trend snap n go and certain carseats snap inand ddon't need to be strapped in. Once the girls outgrow using the snap stroller, we'll either get the Baby Jogger City Mini Double or the City Select if we can get a good deal on it.

If you have a Buy Buy Baby near you, go test drive them.

  • No experience with the strollers you mentioned but I love my bumble ride indie twin and snap and go! We use the snap and go for shopping and quick trips, the indie twin for walks around the neighborhood, park etc.

  • For those of you thinking about the city select, second seats are free with some retailers like albeebaby and strollerdepot!

  • @Stephanie2167 - are you happy with the Joovy twin Roo? I have been trying to decide between that and the baby trend snap and go - I know both have the same concept, but I like how the twin roo has the seats facing diff directions and you can see the babies.
  • This was super helpful. I went To buy buy baby yesterday and they had the contour options and baby jogger city select and with the deal for the free seat I think I am leaning towards the baby jogger city select. I wish they would've had the contour optima but maybe we'll see if a BRU has one to test before making our final decision!
  • PSA: if you haven't bought your stroller yet you may want to check your local BRU. I went in to one on a whim today and they were clearing out a few of last year's models and some floor models. I managed to snag a brand new Baby Trend Sit 'n Stand (the one where the rear seat also comes out for a standing platform and you can also snap 2 infant seats into) for $90...just because of it's "outdated" plain gray fabric vs. this year's print. It's definitely not fancy, but it'll do the trick for us.

I don't know if all the stores are doing it, but it's worth a shot if they have something you want/need and you're on a small budget.
