decisions

went to the RE last week following my CP. he said that we could begin IUI at any time now. so now I have to decide (a) when to start and (b) whether to use clomid or not. tough decisions! i am leaning towards waiting until jan to start the IUI but i am really torn on the clomid. part of me wants to go in guns blazing and give ourselves the best chance possible (our issue is MFI) but the other part of me is a little reluctant to try clomid given the side effects and risks. i guess i need to do more research. our doctor didn't really have an opinion one way or the other, he said it was just a personal preference.

any experiences/thoughts on clomid? i think the dr said that it increases my chance of conceiving from 12% to 15%, does that sound about right?

TIA!!

Honestly, and I'm sure some will disagree, but I don't think clomid is that bad at all, and the positive of increasing your chances is well worth it to me. I'm in my 5th iui - 4 clomid and 1 femara, have had a total of 10 good follies, and have gotten 1 bfp that was a singleton. Since IUIs "reset" after you conceive, I was 1/3 (33%), and now am waiting to see if I'll be 1/2 or 0/2. Also with your dx being MFI, multiple follies means more chances of sperm meeting egg. So that's my two cents :)

Two DDs 10/08 and 08/10, no primary IF
    TTC #3 since 10/2011 - dx unexplained/weak ovulation
     3 BFN clomid + TI cycles, 5 BFN clomid/gonal f IUIs, 1 mmc IUI
2/19/2014 IVF #1 Unexpected low E2 (oversuppressed) -> increased to max doses = 3 or 4 follicles, converting to IUI
BFFP Saw 1 beautiful heartbeat at 6w6d, follow up u/s at 9w showed mmc. Eff this.
    NTNP 5/2014-9/2014, OPKs and TI 10/2014 - 1/2015.
RPL testing all normal, AFC, AMH, and FSH all normal.
    IVF 1.2 1/22/2014 natural cycle start, AFC 28, 300 gonal f/150menopur.
ER 2/3/15 14R 8M 3F w/ICSI Day 5 transfer on 2/8/15 of one "Grade A+" blast and have TWO frosties!

  • Almost forgot, my RE has said research is now leaning away from any long term effects of clomid, and has flat out said more cycles on it won't cause harm. I'm at the Mayo Clinic working with some top ranked REs, so I trust their opinions. (I'm not saying take it for years, but the 6ish cycle limit some REs say May be changing)

I agree with all of this.

We also have MFI and I did 2 clomid/trigger IUIs. Both times I had 2 large follies and our post-wash sperm was roughly 3 Million and both tries failed.
