Sleeping options for sleeping in our room for the first few months

We will likely want the babies in the room with us for the first few months, but we're having a tough time figuring out how to best go about this. We're thinking of the following options:

1) Pack N Play with the double bassinet
      - I know people rave about this thing, but I've also read (and seen in person) that the weight of the babies make the bassinet floor dip inward, making the babies lean toward the middle and each other. This is also rather small for a travel crib/playard for use as the babies grow
2) JoovyRoom2
     - This is bigger than the double Pack N Play, but has no bassinet option. It seems like the better long term option for use as a travel crib and playard for twins. Can they sleep in this as infants for the first few months?
3) 2 Graco Travel Lite Cribs
    - These are small and can be used as bassinets (and two of them will fit in the room), but they become virtually useless very quickly as the babies grow.
4) Some other option I'm not thinking of :)

Any advice would be incredibly helpful!

  • We are using rock n plays. They are great for us because our room is very small. We bring them downstairs during the day & they nap in there as well. I like that they are easy to fold and move around.

Like Mrs Lee, we used a regular PnP for the 6 weeks the girls were in our room. It worked great, no complaints! We use Rocknplays ALL THE TIME, and they are some of my most favorite props that help me manage two at once on my own, though I will also add

Edit: oops! Meant to finish that sentence! I was trying to say that we ended up with some flattening on the backs of our girls' heads, just FYI...

  • I second and third pp. we have the twin PnP set up in our room for them when we bring them home. We used a regular one for our first and it work very well for us so doing the same this time around. Once they hit the 6-8 week mark they will be in their own cribs in their own room.

  • We did the twin pack n play for the first 3 months and it worked beautifully for us. It's true that it dips in the middle, but it wasn't a problem. I think you'll find what works best for you once you get the babies home. The first several weeks were honestly a crap shoot, sometimes they would sleep in the pack in play, sometimes in our arms in the recliner. For the most part, they loved their pack n play!

We just set up one of the cribs in our room. The babies both slept in it and was easy to change diapers in bc it's taller than a pnp.
And it didn't cost extra for something we'd only use for three months!

We used a pnp with DD for the first 6 weeks then switched her to a crib. With the twins we're just going to do the crib from the start, but in our room.

  • We used a full size Arms Reach Co-sleeper.  They both slept in it until they were 3 months old.

  • I'm going for full sized arms reach co sleeper since I'll be nursing.
  • My six week old boys have two sleep options in our bedroom. A crib that they share. And two rock n plays. 80% of the time they sleep in the rock n plAys.

  • We set up a crib in our room and will keep them in it until they start moving. Then I will add a pack n play. We have RnP's, but those are not for overnight sleeping. Newborn necks are not supported in them for unsupervised use.

  • We did a regular pack and play and they shared it for about 14 weeks and did fine.

  • We have a very simple IKEA crib so it didn't take up a ton of space.  We had that in our room and they slept in it together for about 3 months.

This is what we plan on doing too. We're going to sidecar it to our bed like a co-sleeper. Thanks Pinterest!

  • For DD 1 we used an Arms Reach Co sleeper (and occasionally coslept, which I hated b/c I didn't sleep well, but she slept wonderfully). She was in the cosleeper in our room until she was about 5 months.

For the twins we'll have 2 full size cosleepers..though they'll probably start in one if they're small.

We're getting the rock n plays for the family room/naps and to take to grandparents house when we're hanging out there.

  • I've been through every option in the book. I was going to get an Arms Reach Co-sleeper then decided not to fork out the money. The PnP we have was a hand me down so it doesn't have a bassinet feature. We thought about using the cradle we used with DD (same one DH used as a baby) but after looking at pictures of DD in it, I'm not sure both will fit even feet to feet. I don't feel comfortable using the RnP for bedtime.

We just decided this week to put one of the cribs in our room until we are ready to move them into the nursery around 3 months. We already have two cribs so we aren't forking out any extra money for just a few months. Luckily our master bedroom is enormous so we have the space.

  • We had 2 rock n' plays for about 8 weeks which were great because they were cozy and had an angle. About 8-10 weeks (can't remember) we moved one ikea crib into our very small bedroom and they shared that until 6 months when they moved into their own room and into separate cribs (so they wouldn't kick each other in the head  ;) ).

  • We used original Arm's reach co-sleeper and I can't say enough good things about it.  They were in that till about 2-3 months, then in one crib next to our bed till 5-6 months, then in two cribs next to our bed (things were a little crazy for a while!) until about 11 months.
  • We used a full size Arms Reach Co-sleeper.  They both slept in it until they were 3 months old.

We're planning on doing this! But also have a PnP in the living room for diaper changes and to have in case they don't sleep well together. And we're planning on getting 2 RnP because we've heard wonders about them! I'm hoping I won't need to buy 2 cribs until they're at least 6 months.
