Okay, so I signed up for Fertility Friend. I've been using an app on my phone, but since everybody else seems to recommend FF, I thought I would give it a go. Interestingly enough, with the same data, FF placed ovulation 3 days before the app. But I digress, as that is not the point of this thread.
So, I am a nerd and like to know everything there is to know about a subject matter. I have watched all of the videos and tutorials on FF and read FAQ, etc. I found an interesting FAQ on Triphasic Charts. https://www.fertilityfriend.com/Faqs/Triphasic-Pattern-and-Pregnancy.html This is basically what it says:
When charting for pregnancy achievement, there is great interest in identifying early signs which may indicate whether or not there is an increased probability of pregnancy in a given cycle.
Results:
Frequency of a Triphasic Pattern for pregnancy charts: | 12.46% |
Frequency of a Triphasic Pattern for non-pregnant charts: | 4.47% |
Average Days Past Ovulation (DPO) when this pattern occurs: | 9 DPO |
The results show that the triphasic pattern indeed occurs more frequently on pregnancy charts. Especially interesting are the following results:
The magnitude of the difference is quite significant. This pattern is 179% more frequent on pregnancy charts.
The moment in the cycle at which this pattern is the most likely to occur is nine days past ovulation. This is within the window of the most likely time for implantation. (Wilcox, A. J., D. D. Baird, et al.1999).
Although the pattern occurs with greater frequency on pregnancy charts, most pregnancy charts do not show this pattern. While it is a good sign when you are hoping for pregnancy, you do not need this pattern to be pregnant.
Seeing this pattern does not guarantee or confirm pregnancy. While the probability of pregnancy is increased significantly when you see this pattern, it also occurs on non-pregnant charts and so cannot confirm pregnancy before a pregnancy test can be reliably taken.
Although these results confirm that the triphasic pattern is indeed a possible early pregnancy sign it also shows that it is not an absolute sign either as the pattern also appears on non-pregnant charts. In practical terms this means that seeing this pattern on your chart is indeed a good sign but it is not an assurance that you will be pregnant. Not seeing the pattern on your chart is likewise not an indication that you are not pregnant.
Eh, I guess it is just one thing I can add to the list to be on the look out for when looking for early signs of pregnancy. All signs (except for a BFP of course), seem to fall into the category: A good sign, but nothing definitive. Honestly, if it weren't for you ladies I would hop on the CRAZY TRAIN during the 2WW.

It's hard not to, I know. Unfortunately being at this for over a year now gives a person the time to develop some perspective as well as ways to protect yourself from further disappointment and heartbreak. It really is just too hard to get so hopeful and keep looking for signs cycle after cycle, the highs are great but the lows are too crashing. My first half a year or so of charting I combed the FF chart galleries comparing my charts to the pregnancy ones there, seeing all sorts of implantation dips and triphasics and other similarities and getting excited - but cycle after cycle of my charts looking perfect and identical to BFP charts but ending in BFNs got pretty exhausting and just damn depressing. I now, truly, approach my chart from an ovulation perspective only - I try not to look at it in terms of anything pregnancy-predictive, if I catch my O date and we have sex when we should, then my chart has done what it's supposed to for that cycle and I don't expect anything more from it.
