Re: Pregnant & TTC After a Preemie Check In 11/08/13

  • Had a good 16-week appointment, healthy heartbeat. Now the long wait until the anatomy scan on December 2nd... I already check my feet for swelling every morning. I'm afraid of how I'm going to feel post-20 weeks, when pre-e usually starts to show itself. I had TERRIBLE swelling that wouldn't go down long before I ever had ridiculous BP or protein in the urine. I know some swelling is normal, but I already know I'm going to panic if it happens.

I'm so sorry to hear about MrsLaurenandDan's loss of sweet baby Noah. :( They will be in my thoughts.

  • It's been awhile since I checked in. :(

Currently 29 weeks today. Only about a week from my last delivery date (30 weeks and then some). Had a little slip down the stairs last weekend, but after getting checked out, all is well--no contractions, lots of movement, no placental abruption.

According to my high risk u/s, baby is measuring at the 20th percentile, which is fine. My left uterine artery is considered normal, while my right remains abnormal keeping me high risk for pre-e.  Basically feeling like a ticking time bomb, but gotta wait it out. Not much else I can do!

I think I'm going to pack myself a little bag so I have something ready to go just in case this time around.

  • @Bluebird2318 That's great that you heard a healthy heartbeat at 16 weeks! Are you being closely watched by an MFM for signs of pre-e? FX for a good anatomy scan in December-let us know how it goes!

@SweetPeaKate Glad to hear that everything was ok after a slip-I am sure that was nerve wracking! You will have to educate me on pre-e since I don't know much about it. What is abnormal about the right uterine artery that they have to watch? Praying that the next 11 weeks are uneventful and baby makes it to term.

  • @punky917 Thank you. :) I did see an MFM at about 13 weeks. I'm on low-dose aspirin daily, and they want me to come in weekly starting at 24 weeks for BP/urine, and monthly starting at 20 weeks for growth ultrasounds.

  • @punky917 The uterine arteries carry the blood to the placenta, when the flow is restricted (as in my case) it can cause restricted fetal growth as well as blood pressure issues in the mom leading to pre-e. Basically there is just extra resistance between my artery and the placenta making it harder for blood to get to the baby. So they will keep monitoring me via monthly u/s for growth restriction and I will keep taking my baby aspirin. Hope that makes sense.

  • @MrsLaurenandDan, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

  • No major update from me.  My contractions are getting much stronger (at times extremely painful), but not as frequent.  Dr is not overly concerned since I"ve had no cervical changes yet.

I have a RCS scheduled already for Dec 17th.  It's crazy to think we've been focusing on keeping the baby in, that it's strange to plan for the exit!

I will be 34 wks tomorrow & I know that I have a bit to go, but I feel that the scariest part is behind me.  :)

  • @SweetPeaKate I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. I delivered my first because of pre-e at about the same time (29 weeks). When did they first start checking your uterine arteries? My OB wants me to have monthly growth ultrasounds starting at 20 weeks and I'm wondering if that's part of it.

  • I will be 12 wks on tuesday! And should be starting baby aspirin then as well, have an ob appointment and he scheduled me for an u/s on my gallbladder to determine if its safe to postpone the surgery for that until after lo is born or if I have to have surgery in my 2nd trimester. My ob didn't want to start the baby aspirin until 12 wks because of the gallbladder issues. A little nervous, found out about this baby on my original surgery date and my gallbladder was in horrible shape then, but I have been feeling really well and not had any issues with it lately so I am hoping they say it can wait, I really don't want to have surgery while pregnant. I will have a real update about that on tuesday. The pain from my cysts has subsided so that's good news there. Is it weird that I have a mental countdown to the 32 wk mark, when DD was born? I can't seem to help myself there, I've got this idea in my head that if I can get to 32 wks without any issues I can make it full term.

  • @Bluebird2318 my MFM said they can start monitoring them around 18-20 weeks and up until the connection/placenta is fully formed at 24 weeks. I had an u/s at 20, 24, and my last one at 28...so basically monthly. At my last ultrasound they checked the arteries, but said that is probably the last time they will do it because the changes at this point will be minimal. Mine arterial flow was very abnormal at 20 weeks, and has slightly improved since...but nothing drastic enough to eliminate my risk. Although my MFM said that I would be followed for fetal growth regardless of change in my arteries because of the size of my first child at birth (30 weeks, 6 days @ 2lbs. 5oz.)

@rslhmg Mental countdown is not weird at all!! I'm about a 10 days away from my "milestone" date and the countdown is on more than ever. Although I have to say, I won't feel comfortable about thinking about full term until I hit 35 weeks and everything is still okay. I hope you get some positive answers from your dr. this week.

  • I'm sorry it's been awhile since I've posted. My computer has been broken and I am terrible at mobile bumping. I am 13w3d- out of 1st tri!! But, I have a small (1cm) subchorionic hematoma and have been spotting lightly daily for almost 6 weeks now. The bleed hasn't grown, so that's a good thing, but it does put me at an even greater risk for PTL and/or PROM. My OB will check on the bleed next week. I have my 1st appt with an MFM the day before Thanksgiving. I assume I will start the Progesterone shots somewhere around that time.

@MrsLaurenandDan, I am so sorry for the loss of baby Noah.

  • Hi! Tentatively happy to move myself into the pregnant category! Due 6/29 with a singleton, so 7w1d today. Terrified but optimistic, but in a weird way, got my first sign that things might actually turn out OK, which is that I did not have ovarian torsion with surgery today. I had that at 7w1d in PG#1, and miscarried seven weeks later. So this singleton pregnancy is already different. :)

  • Ok here's the official update. NO SURGERY! Gallbladder looks ok enough to put surgery off until after lo is here, assuming of course I don't start having severe attacks. That means I can start the baby aspirin. YAY! I feel like I'm doing something now to help prevent HELLP. My dr said the test to predict hellp isn't in our area, and not in the states that he's aware. Lo is looking great, heartbeat was good, and was super active. I thought I was imagining feeling the movement, but the ultrasound confirmed lo was moving when and where I felt it, so not all of it is in my head lol.

  • @SweetPeaKate Thanks for clarifying that for me. I am glad that you are getting monitored closely!

@vsalt31 Holy cow! I agree that the scariest parts are behind you!! This is about the time my OB was like "You're still pregnant?" lol! That's awesome that LO's RCS is scheduled! So happy for you!

@rslghmg Yay for no surgery and feeling LO's movements!

@danalawrence Congratulations! Praying for a happy and healthy 9 months to you!

@MinaE01 Woohoo for being out of the 1st tri! Sending positive thoughts and prayers that the subchorionic hematoma resolves itself.

  • First time posting here (just found this board)! My DS Declan was born March 15/2011 at 27 weeks exactly and spent 9 weeks in NICU. PT labour was either because of an abruption, chorio or incompetent cervix - or some combination of the three.
Currently pregnant with twins, due March 18/2014. So I'm 22+3 and starting to freak out a bit about getting close to my first delivery date.
Glad to have found you guys - so sorry to hear about @MrsLaurenandDan's loss.
