Winter gear

Yep I'm just a lurker here but I need some advice. As a Texan I have no idea what gear is necessary for little ones in upstate NY winters. So far dd has a fleece hoodie, hat, and mittens, and I'm shopping around for coats and shoes. Can y'all recommend exact brands/types of coats, boots, and anything else you must have to survive up here? We want to play in the snow a few times but mostly we will just be running to and from the car, maybe a few walks in the stroller...

I served a mission in Western New York so I spent a good amount of time outdoors. It gets COLD. I wore a couple of pairs of socks under a pair of Sorel boots, thermals, gloves, scarves, hats and a long wool coat. Layering seemed to be the most helpful way with dealing with the cold. The coat and boots you linked are really cute!

DD1 has this coat. It keeps her warm. I bet for outings if you put a fleece under that your LO would be warm. But I'm not familiar with NY cold.

Those are cute and fine for everyday trips. For snow play, you need something waterproof. I think Old Navy has snow bibs, which should be okay (I like the LL Bean things, but it's $$ for just a trip)

We've been in the ft drum area a while (so almost Canada) but this is dd's first real winter here. I could have gone my entire life without hearing the term "lake effect" UGH! Thanks for the link that coat looks more useful and I love the color. Kohls also has a cute snow set I'm putting on my list now.

I'm in Maine, we buy northface. We bought dd some bog winter boots. The soles were more flexible for walking than some others.


Edit: upstate NY is pretty comparable to maine in regards to winters, and I don't think that peacoat will be warm enough for most days.
LL bean is another place to look!
