Sleep regression

My girls are now 11 weeks and the last night the slept well was Halloween. Ever since then it takes major rocking, bouncing and walking to get them asleep and they wake up more often. I thought by now it would start getting better not worse! One of my girls will only nap if she is in the moby and I walk around with her for 15 minutes first, even after all that if I sit for more than a minute she starts waking up. I spend half the day pacing around my house trying to keep her asleep. My other daughter is a much better sleeper and I feel like she is always being paid less attention too because I'm busy with her needier sister. I guess this is not a question so much as a vent, I'm feeling very frustrated. I was in the ped office at their one month visit and I met the mother of a 3 month old, she told me her daughter was sleeping through 12 hours a night. I remember at the time thinking oh only 2 more months and things will be better, how stupid of me.

Re: Sleep regression

  • Don't get frustrated if it feels like they're regressing!  Some babies sleep through at 3 months, and if that is your goal it's a good idea to read up on sleep training/health sleep habits (gentle at that age, not CIO).  Most of even these wonderful sleepers go through tough periods for months more, though.
  • Although u would love to have them sttn ,I honestly don't mind the 1 or 2 middle of the night feedings if they go right back to sleep. It's just the 4 am 45 minute rocking, walking etc that has been getting to me. One is a great sleeper, the other fights it so hard! My husband found me crying in the bathroom the other day because I just couldn't get her to calm down. For a while it was getting easier , now I just want to cry again every day.

  • (((hugs))) the first year is so hard, but by the time you get to the end of it a lot of these problems are far in the past. Once they hit 4m, you might look at the sleep lady book. I resisted sleep training mine for a long, long time and in hindsight, wish I had done it sooner. My friend with quads STd at 5 months and slept pretty well overall, but wouldn't have survived if she hadn't. Hang in there mama, it seems like forever but it will get better.

  • I am so sorry hon. DS was a horrible sleeper, and I went through the same thing with him. If we put him down for naps he would immediately wake up. (We did discover that he would usually sleep in the swing and that helped a ton.) At night it got to the point where we were literally awake holding him for hours on end int he middle of the night. Finally at six months we Ferbered. I know it is not for everyone, but for us it was the right decision. Our son is two and a half one and he still sleeps like a champ. I know how exhausting it is to have a baby who doesn't sleep well, but I also want to tell you that it will get better. Your daughter will learn to sleep.

In the meantime, remember that fair does not always mean equal. You are giving each baby what she needs. That just looks different for each of your daughters. Hang in there hon! (((((Hugs)))))
