Day/night reversal - help!

Ever since the 6 week growth spurt, our little guy competely has his days and nights mixed up. He's almost 8 weeks and is super awake from about 7 pm till 3 am and a compete zombie the rest of the time (aside from waking to eat every 3-5 hours). Any tips on how to keep this guy awake durning more appropriate daytime hours??

  • I've been told with my older kids to make sure you are loud during the day. Don't create a quiet happy environment. I'd also been told to strip LO down-- meaning to make them not warm and toasty so they are sleepy.

Do you have an activity mat or something to hold LO interest during the daytime? I would also try and make the 7-3 awake period very quiet with little to no lights to create a night time atmosphere.

My DD only had it messed up for a couple days and she ended up "righting" herself. Ultimately I think what LO wants LO gets and it sucks when their schedule is wonky! Good luck!
  • Lots of natural sunlight and walks outside.
  • When my LO naps during the day I limit them to three hours due to feeding needs( she usually takes 2 day naps), but at night we let her sleep until she wakes. She figured out her days and nights at about four weeks.

  • I'm having the same problem! LO is only awake in the middle of the night and I feel terrible putting him back in his crib awake....but it is so hard to keep myself awake at 3am. We play a little during the day but he is mostly napping other than for feedings, changing, and baths. Feeling like a bad mom for not playing with my LO enough during his awake time.

How old is your LO?  It wasn't until about 5 weeks that DS was awake for a little after a feeding.  And even now at 8 weeks, there isn't a lot of playing that goes on because DS is only awake for 45 minutes from the beginning of a feeding to when he is cranky and ready for a nap.

That's good to know...I'm glad you shared! LO is only 2 and a half weeks old, so maybe I'm expecting too much. I just want to be sure I am being a good mom and not missing out on LO's awake time.
