Wednesdays = Breakfast For Dinner

In our house, we do breakfast for dinner every Wednesday.  It started off as kind of a joke but it grew into pretty much every Wednesday we do breakfast and I kind of love it because it's one day of the week that I don't have to think about what's for dinner.  I'm about to start working a new job where I will be going into the office versus working from home so no more last minute, "oh shoot, I forgot to defrost x, let me get it out right now."  I'm thinking about having set meals most nights - e.g. Monday = a chicken dish, Tuesday = pasta, Wednesday = breakfast (obviously), Thursday = beef dish, and Friday probably pizza night.  Does anyone else do this?  On the one hand, I think it could be terribly boring, but on the other hand, I'm trying to think of ways to help me always be prepared and always know what to defrost/get ready before I leave for work each day with minimal thought required.

  • I think it's a good idea. I meal plan, and it helps me stay organized.

    I just implemented Wacky Wednesday, which means we eat dessert before dinner. DS loves it. My hope is to make a simple dessert (with DS helping) on Tuesday evening.

  • We do this.

    And then I flip things around based on what's going on that specific week, but at least there's a rough plan to start from.  Cooking is not something I love or want to spend a lot of time on so the idea of starting each week's menu plan and grocery list with a blank slate seems tedious/overwhelming to me.

    Also, I feel like having a structure makes it easier to consolidate ingredients and prevent things from going to waste or getting lost in the pantry, which makes me happy.

  • This doesn't seem boring.  A "chicken dish" can be LOTS of things, as can any of those nights.  You're not limiting yourself.  It just gives you a framework of what to plan for.

  • We do something similar.  Guaranteed, at least once a week is pasta night.  Kids LOVE pasta and it is usually the most peaceful dinner of the week.  We also have no-cook Fridays...we order out (mostly pizza) every Friday night.  By the end of the week I am so tired, I do not want to cook or wash dishes.  Couple of times of a month is taco night and breakfast for dinner night but I mix those up depending on our schedule.

    Yes, this. I loosely follow this plan. Chicken on monday, Pasta on Wednesdays, etc. There is enough variety even if you keep your base planned.

    we do breakfast for dinner Wednesdays too!  My DH works late that night and he hates eggs. its easy and the kids love it! I grew up with spaghetti Tuesdays. There was something comforting about it. Traditions are important to kids. Kids like stability.
