Baby Names

TTC #2 Baby names on the list

We are currently trying for #2. We have an Everett who will be 9 months on Friday and we have an adopted son who is almost 8 years old, Ruben (he was already named).

With that being said, I have a few names I want to throw out (obviously this may change in months to come) but wanted to see what people's thoughts were for fun.

Girl:

  • Charlotte nn  Charlie
  • Lennon nn Lenny

Boy:

  • Elijah nn Eli (left over from the list with DS)
  • Josiah nn Jo Jo
  •

So far that's all we have but I am sure more will come in go once we get the BFP!

Re: TTC #2 Baby names on the list

  • I love Charlotte, but don't like the nn Charlie.  I love the nn Lottie for Charlotte.  Charlotte goes well with your other children.

Do not like Lennon for a girl (or boy) and definitely do not like the nn Lenny.

I love Elijah nn Eli and I think this name goes well with your other children.

Josiah is just ok for me, but I do not like Jo Jo as a nn.  It's too cutesy.  Maybe while he is a baby, but not past the baby stage.

  • I think Charlotte is pretty but really hate Charlie on a girl.

I like Lennon but on a boy only- I don't like Lenny at all.   Elijah is nice but personally I prefer just Eli.   Not a fan of Josiah at all.

  • I like your boy names, but not so much your girls.  Don't get me wrong, I love Charlotte.  But Charlotte and Everett are a little too matchy for me.

And I dislike Lennon for a boy or girl.  I'm a huge Beatles fan, so I appreciate the shout out to John, but Lennon/Lenin sound exactly the same when spoken and most students take a World History Class in school, not a History of Rock and Roll class.  Which means most of her friends will be more familiar with the Russian Dictator than the musician.

  • Charlotte and Elijah. The other two are NMS.

  • Charlotte and Elijah.

Have you considered Lottie as a NN for Charlotte?

  • Thanks for the feedback. I found that even thought we 'think' we will use a nickname for our children, most of the time we don't. Everett I thought for sure would be Rhett but we actually call him Boogie right now ( I know he won't like it as he gets older so not sure what we will call him then!).

I like Charlotte and Elijah the most.

I do not like Lennon on a girl one bit and I think Lenny is a terrible nickname for a little girl. I think of the old cop played by Jerry Orbach from Law & Order and Lennie Small from Of Mice & Men.

I wouldn't have thought that either but here is where it came from for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_aJHJdCHAo&list=PLewX7KQSoYkU-eUhamhMKRsJx_anuoJ-a

It just really caught my eye...not sure why, but I kind of love it.

  • No to Lennon, esp for a girl. I like Charlotte

    I like both boy names

  • Cant go wrong with your boy names. For a girl, Charlotte.

I speculate Lennon will be an unforgettable Beatle for at least one more generation. And no one could ever rock Lenny like Jerry Orbach did. Ha ha, just joking around, I'm a huge L&O fan.

  • So over Charlotte/Charlie.

    I actually love Lennon/Lenny! Cute!!

    Boys are great too!

  • I like Charlotte. Your boys' names are nice names, but NMS. Josiah is less popular, so I'll cast a vote for that.

I do not understand Lennon. I mean John Lennon was a poet and whatever, but he was a real asshole. He was physically and verbally abusive and controlling (while being a major cheater) of Yoko Ono. I can't imagine naming anyone "after" him, especially not a girl.

I also wouldn't understand using the name if it's not supposed to be "after" him, since he's going to be everyone's primary association. (Unless they hear/think Lenin, in which case...communism and the Cold War come to mind).

  • I know it probably doesn't matter whether any of us love or hate your name choices but it matters which ones we think go best in the sibset, right?
If you do want opinions then your name choices are NMS but I would not side eye any of them either.
I might suggest "Len" as a nickname for Lennon. It sounds like "Lynne" which is more feminine than Lenny. I know a woman who's name is Christian and she goes by Christy. Anyhow, I agree with the PP who said that Charlotte and Everette seem too matchy-matchy. So go with Lennon for a girl.
Also, Everett and Elijah single your adopted son out and seem too matcy-matchy. Go with Josiah for a boy.

  • I know I am in the minority, but I love Charlotte NN Charlie (DD, so biased), and hate the NN Lottie. For the boys side I really like Elijah.

  • Thanks guys! It's a good mix of responses and I appreciate everyone's feedback. Who knows what will happen from the time we get pregnant and when the little one arrives.

Just an FYI, the Lennon name for a girl would not  be after John but I posted above a link to a little girl who was singing with her baby sister. The older girl's name was Lennon and it was really intriguing and kind of grabbed both myself and my husband--enough to put the name on the list. I know it's not the 'norm' and I don't know if we would actually call her Lenny (it's just what came to mind for a nickname).

As for Charolette nn Charlie, again, not sure we would use that nickname either but it seems to be that or Lottie.

Wish us luck in conceiving in the near future! Again, thanks for your responses!

  • I don't really like Lennon for a first name on either sex, and definitely not a girl. Charlotte is pretty, but do agree with pp that it sounds a little close too Everett. It seems you might like unisex names for girls or at least ones with unisex nicknames. You could do Alexandra/Alex, Franseca/Frankie, Natalie/Nat, Johanna or Josephine/Jo or Jojo.

I like both Josiah and Elijah... Probably Eli as standalone best actually. Unlike Jonah and Judah and Levi more so just throwing those out there as they have a similar feel to me.

Any of these names mentioned besides Charlotte seem to go fine as sibset.

not a fan of the girl names, Lennon is the worser of the two by far though.

Loving your boys name style though! I vote Josiah but mainly because its a new name I'm loving lately after meeting the sweetest kindergartner last week with it. I like the full name though not JoJo

I think the point is though that, whatever your intentions, the vast majority of people are going to assume you named her after John Lennon.  If you use a name that's so strongly associated with one person, then you're giving your child the ramifications of that name, whether you intend to or not.  For that reason, and because I think girls deserve to have their femininity celebrated by being given names that are clearly feminine, I choose Charlotte over Lennon.

I like both Elijah and Josiah, but since Elijah is so popular, my vote is for Josiah.

An example would be that we've (sadly) seen Nixon pop up on this board because the parents thought it "sounded cool". Just because you aren't using a well-known association as inspiration, that's what people will assume and that's a burden I wouldn't want on my kid.
