My niece was just born and I'm trying to make her a gift, my brother in law says she was 7.84 lbs does that mean 7 lbs 8 oz? I feel so silly asking but I haven't heard back from him and frankly feel bad bothering them with questions!

    7lbs 8oz would be 7.5lbs. So your niece would be a little under 8lbs :)

    A lot of people write it like that and it drives me bananas. He probably means 7 lbs 8 oz, but 7.8 is not the correct way to write it. Ounces are not tenths of a pound. But I digress...

    7.84 lbs equals 7 lb 13 oz. The scale at our Drs gives weights like this and the nurse converts it to onces for us.
    Oz = (84*16)/100
