Biting when new teeth appear

So my DD has her 2 bottom teeth, and when they first appeared it seemed like we went through a biting spell when nursing.  Now she is working on her top ones, I can actually feel/see the bud right under the gum so I know it's close.  With that said, she just started biting or more nibbling this go around.  Did any one else notice when their LO's teeth were popping through, biting increased?

  • I breastfeed and have noticed this too! DD has 7 teeth now, and she has done this every time. So far, she hasn't bitten down too hard, but it still hurts!

  • What have you done to get her to stop biting or did it just pass as quickly as it came?

  • This exactly. It passed as soon as the new teeth popped out.
Yup. Def increase with the teeth coming in. I would unlatch her then give her the chance to re latch. If she bit me again we were done. Had a couple of curing moments but it works. Even now when I go to feed her if she doesn't latch on right away we are done because she ends up just biting me so I figure she is just playing around and not hungry after all.

  • Every tooth Ariel gets causes at least a few days of biting. So far she has seven teeth and is cutting number eight.

When she bites I lightly plug her nose. This makes her immediately unlatch and pull away. I then calmly, but sternly, tell her "no biting" followed by "you must be gentle when you nurse". It only takes a time or two now before she gets the idea.
