Success after IF

Zantac users or reflux moms

LO has been on Zantac since Friday I don't think it's really helping except LO hasn't had an episode while sleeping so far. Well today she started shrieking when she eats again, arching her back and being a fussy crazy person. Has anyone experienced this regression?

She was doing so much better own her new goat milk formula. She had totally stopped screaming.

  • E was on Zantac for a few months. It was a few weeks before I was really convinced it was working. Maybe it needs more time, or maybe you need to up the dose. I'd watch for a couple more days, then call the pedi. GL. It's so hard to see your LO in pain.

  • Are you using the kind that is in a pill that dissolves in the milk or the kind that is in liquid form?  Sometimes I would find with DS (who I think may have been on prevacid instead) that he would not get all of the dissolveable kind. It tended to get stuck in the bottle. Just a thought....

  • I second PPs. I think they told us it takes about 10 or so days to work. Also, it's very common to need several dosage adjustments to find relief for LO. Hope it improves!!

  • It took a week or two for me to be convinced it was working as well. It seemed to work well the first couple of days, then he appeared to be in pain again, and then it got better. I second calling your pedi about the dosage. At that age their constantly gaining weight, so the dosage needs to be adjusted frequently.

After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!

  • My LO started on Zantac, took it for a week or so and the. It was decided by the pedi GI it was not working so he put her on Prilosec. It's really hard when your baby is in so much pain and the meds that are supposed to be helping are not working. I would call the pedi to find out how long before changing the dosage or changing the med. Hang in there. Once Prilosec started working my daughter changed into a happy, thriving baby.

  • Some reflux kids needs stronger meds than Zantac. Such was the case with my DS. We switched to a PPI (starting with compounded Prilosec) when he was 1 month old. We overlapped Zantac and the Prilosec for a week to give the PPI a chance to work. We tried to stop giving meds at 4 months to see if he still needed them, but slowly over the next 2 months we were having difficulty getting DS to feed, so we started on Prevacid solutab (another form of PPI). That drug was magic. It was easy to give to DS because it did not taste bad and dissolved in his mouth. The feeding aversion stopped. It was the best thing ever for us. Once DS was about 13 months old, we began to wean him off of the Prevacid. He is now 15 months and completely off of it. Reflux sucks. I hope your LO finds relief soon.

  • DS2 had silent reflux and was on zantac, but it was nothing like that so I have no advice. You have all my sympathy though, I hope she gets some relief soon.
