Pregnant after IF

Pretty Straightforward Question

Does anyone know when you're supposed to stop laying on your back? I'm not a back sleeper, but I do like to lay on my back while watching tv to stretch out and rest. Forgot to ask my ob...

  • The book I read said 20 weeks, but my friend who had a baby said that your body tells you when it's ready by making you move around

  • I've read 3rd tri but also read that when you should no longer sleep on your back it won't be comfortable anyways.

  • MJC, I'm glad you asked this. I love to stretch out too and have been avoiding it. But the comments here totally make sense. Thx ladies!

    Me: 42. DH: 46.

    1st Pregnancy: MC, 11/19/00.

    2nd Pregnancy: DS born 04/10/06.

    3rd Pregnancy: CP, 03/11.

4th Pregnancy: MMC, D&C 11/30/11, Genetic testing revealed Trisomy 4.

Tried Letrozole January 2013-July 2013 (including 2 IUIs), all BFN.  After 2 1/2 years of trying for child #2, decided to "give up" after July cycle, based on AMA.

  • My friend is a midwife and she says, "seriously, do you really think all the people in the past and across the world avoid laying on their backs? No! Relax, your body will tell you if you need to reposition". A body pillow is a great help for getting comfy!!
Haha, I know, it's so true. I think about all the precautions we take here and wonder if the same measures are taken throughout the world. I mean, for cryin' out loud, my grandma smoked and drank through 8 successful pregnancies (though the jury is still out on how some turned out, just sayin ;) ) and my mom and dad probably used lead-based paint in my nursery. But, still, a 2IF brain worries about everything, right?

I wish I really knew less. Ignorance is bliss! :)

I agree with the statements that your body will tell you. There are some days when I lay on my back and it's not an issue.  Other days, I lay on my back for 2 seconds and something happens that causes me to get up instantly.  I can't even describe what it is, but all I know is that I have to change positions that second.

Richzep, does it feel like your legs are super restless and you have to keep moving them? (Like Kramer's jimmy legs on Seinfeld)? I've noticed that sensation and I'm starting to connect the dots that I think it's when I'm too horizontal on my back for too long.

The fact that you mentioned the "jimmy legs" makes me love you even more. We are major Seinfeld nerds here. :D

  • After prior pregnancies I can't sleep on my back any more.  And I can't sleep on my side without a body pillow between my knees.  I had hypertension and eclampsia with my first. They force you onto your left side to keep baby off the artery and good blood flow.  Ever since I'm a left side sleeper.
