Babies on the Brain

Babies on HIS Brain!

Hello this is my first post on the Bump. But I feel like babies are on my mind a lot and I needed a place to get it all out--consider yourself warned! :-p

I am 29 (30 next month) and live in western NY. My husband and I have been married a little over 2 years. He is 31. We just bought our first house this past spring, and while we love our 2 furbabies (2 kitties), we are preparing to take the next steps towards getting pregnant in 2014. So, you can definitely say we have babies on the brain!

This year we have been talking about what it would be like to start a family. H had been hesitant, worried about money, being a parent, etc. and I have been the one with the confidence: money is fine, you will be a great dad, etc. We had tentatively set TTC for our 3yr anniversary in Fall of 2014 (a compromise between my we-can-do-this attitude and his life-will-never-be-the-same-let's-wait-a-bit fears.)

Suddenly this fall, it was like a switch flipped and H is all about babies and we when can start making one. He talked me in to pushing up the TTC date to the summer 2014, and has said why not try even earlier--Spring 2014 hear we come. Now all of my nerves have come rushing to the surface (nervous-excited, but nervous just the same). This is a HUGE step.

I have several things on my mind:
1. I would like to lose some weight. I got out of exercising after the wedding. I took a break from my shedding for the wedding a looooooooooooong break. 20is lbs later, I have some work to do. The plan is to exercise and eat healthy to lose the weight before the TTC process begins.

2. We plan to run a 15k (9.3. mile) road race in July of 2014. Should I wait on TTC until after? I have read mixed info on running while pregnant. (I do planned to talk to my OB/GYN when I see her in January.)

3. One of my bridesmaids has asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding in December 2014. Since she is a close friend, I told her we a planning to start trying and I may be pregnant for her wedding. She was very excited for us and was not concerned at all. Part of me wants to wait until late spring to start TTC so I am no more than 7ish months for the wedding (I know it is unlikely we will get pregnant on the first try, but there is always the what if).

Sorry this was such a long post, I did warn you. Feel free to comment and share your thoughts, I hope this board will help me get some of the baby crazy out!

  • None of those are show stoppers unless you want them to be. It sounds like you're still getting used to the idea of TTC sooner, so if they are important to you or you just need some time to adjust your schedule in your mind, then hold off til the summer. Like pp said, with your doctor's blessing and monitoring, running a 15k is still possible.and I couldn't imagine putting off TTC so I don't feel fat and tired for a half day event like a wedding, even your BFF. Getting healthy is important, but putting TTC on hold to lose weight is a personal decision. Like I said, not show stoppers unless your looking for reasons to wait (which is totally fine, if you are)

  • PP gave you great advice.

I am also a runner and I have been cleared to run while pregnant.  My DH and I got a BFP in early September and had a loss 4.5 weeks later.  I can tell you that I was still able to run while pregnant; however, I was slower than normal and I lost a little bit of distance.  I was training for a marathon though!  I ran two 10k's (6.2 miles) while pregnant and had we not had a loss I would be running a half marathon at 15 weeks.  So, it is totally do able.

Besides, who knows how long it is going to take you to get pregnant.  Do you really want to put of ttc for almost a year because of one race next summer?  Even though we are going to get right back to ttc as soon as we can (2 cycles from now) I am registering for 4 10k's races throughout next year -- March, June, October, and November.  I am hoping to be super pregnant by October/November and even if I am I should still be able to walk 6.2 miles.

    Good luck!!

Thanks for your feedback! I looked into the race some, and there is a 5k as well, so I can keep that in the back of my mind as an option to drop down to if the planets align. My main focus is going to be to keep exercising and eating right. What will be will be.

Part of me has gotten a little freaked out because people here are so wonderfully honest and open about their struggles to get pregnant. There is always the possibility H and I face the same challenges, so maybe earlier is better.

My second focus is going to be educating myself. Reading up on things so I can have an educated conversation with my doctor. :-)
