MoMs who used CDs

Hi - 28wks with mo-di girls and seriously considering CDing. Looking for some encouragement that it is doable and also what types you used and loved. There are so many different kinds out there and I am overwhelmed by the research I have done so far so I am coming here to see if anyone of you that have done this can provide some much needed advice. Thanks in advance!

Re: MoMs who used CDs

  • I have no practical advice, but we are also planning to CD. We did with our DS and loved it. We used pocket diapers, but used disposables at night. Our plan this time is fitted with covers until the babies are big enough for the pockets. Possibly prefolds with covers if I need preemie size too.

  • I'm using cloth, but right now I just have one at home. I signed up for a diaper service at the beginning because I didn't want to deal with laundry and adjusting to 2 babies. I also didn't want to buy a separate newborn stash. I recommend this if it's available in your area. The service is prefolds and then I have Thirsties size 1 covers. I'll have to buy a few smaller covers for when my daughter comes home from the NICU; she'll probably be in the 4 pound range, so too small for the Thirsties.

  • I am using cloth and love them. I have mostly aio and a few other types but the all in one's are my favorite.
  • I have Hybrids, AIOs, pockets, prefolds, fitted. PUL covers, wool covers. One size and sized. You name it, I've probably tried it. Haha. I plan to use paper diapers while they are in the tiny stage then make the switch. I have a massive stash. I use certain diapers for bed time vs day time and staying home vs. going out.
I suggest you buy a few of each and find out what works best for you. Just like paper diapers, some cloth diapers fit some babies better than others.
Jillian's Drawers does a cool trial program. Green Mountain Diapers and Cotton Babies are two great places to buy diapers online. I also buy many of my diapers on Ebay.
My favorites are Kissaluvs Hybrid One Size Contour diaper used with a wool cover. (Store bought or ones I've made myself) If I am going to be out of the house for a few hours or all day, I prefer to use an AIO or Pocket lined with a half sheet of VIVA paper towel. Once soiled you flush the poop and towel and it leaves a "clean" diaper to carry around until you get home, instead of a poop filled diaper at the bottom of your bag.  You can't go wrong with a few BumGenius One size.
    Good luck!
  • I have CDd since birth and have had best success with AIOs mostly. Swaddlebees are a fave. I loved pockets for my bigs when they were babies, but stuffing double diapers was making me nuts
so I switched. I did have a nb stash and sold them for just a little less than I bought them for, so was happy for that!

  • We cloth diaper. We did not start till they were 2 months all home and big enough. For the first few months we did prefolds and covers. Then moved to one size pockets. I like to keep it simple so we have BG4.0 and that is it. We have had to use disposables when we moved across country and lived with family. Cloth is 100% possible even with triplets. Plus huge money saver.

I'm building my CD stash too. It is overwhelming! I got the g diaper newborn package as a gift, I have 8 kawaii P&Ns and I'm registered for a few newborn AIO. I'm hoping that's enough to prove to hubby that this is doable with twins AND get a good sense of what works for us. On the CD bump board there are a few posts at the top that are tagged and super helpful to get started. Youtube videos also really helped ( I liked the cloth diaper 101 series).

  • This is all really helpful!

Can anyone give me an idea of how many diapers you'd start with for twins if you want to do laundry no more than every 48 hours??

  • My twins are 18 days old and still too small for CD but I have 12 flip covers and about 3 dozen GMD prefolds and 24 flip stay dry inserts. My plan is to wash every other day. I liked the flips because the covers are soft and reusable and much less expensive than buying all Bum genius 4.0.
  • I think the problem with trying to wash every 48 hours at first is simply the number of diapers is too much for one load. When they get older and need fewer diapers, much more possible. I had 60 NB AIOs and used about 48 of those and didn't like 12 of them but had backups. I washed every day and that was about 30 diapers with more in case it took to long to get to them. I now have about 60 that I use and it gives me plenty of buffer plus less wear on them from washing a lot. I wash about every day and a half now.

  • This is a great thread to read and see so many are CD. We CD DD (who is 2)about 75% of the time. Ideally I'd like to CD the twins, but I just don't know if I can keep up with it early on. WE have a local company that does a diaper service so I may look into that.

  • I CD'd with my singleton and am gearing up to CD with the twins. I'm 24 weeks. Here is my plan :

24-30 Newborn AIO's I'm buying as many new as I can and will resell them after the babies grow out of them. I am going with rumparooz Lil joeys because they fit 4-12lbs. Most NB AIOs I see are 6-12 lbs. so I feel more prepared for smaller babies with the LiL Joeys.

Then I already bought 8 one size Flip covers. I will be using a combo of stay dry inserts (newborn size) Indian prefolds and stay dry inserts when they get older. I'm getting 24 newborn inserts and 24 prefolds

Then!!! I'm getting 10 One size AIOs for being out and about for when they are older.

I am getting a lot of the diapers used through FB swap boards. My recent score was 6 Lil joeys for $40 including shipping and they are in awesome condition.

You can CD, you can save money, and its addicting. Once you get a good deal it feeds the habit. Good luck!!
