3rd Trimester

Induction advice....

I don't have my official induction date, but I know it'll be the week of the 18th (2 weeks HOLY CRAP!!) Any advice of how to prepare for the big day? I'm starting my leave that week so I don't have the added stress of work (I work with elementary kiddos....not exactly a stress free work environment!) and I want to spend the extra time playing with my 3 year old. I'm excited and nervous...it's one thing when you just naturally go into labor, it's completely different knowing that I will be "thrown" into labor!!

Thanks much! :)

Re: Induction advice....

  • Thanks ladies! I know being induced will take a while...not looking forward to that, but I am so super excited to finally feel like this is the end! The last few weeks have been long and hellish, so I'm ready to be completely done and holding my new little man!! I'll make sure to let my SO know he needs to bring stuff for him too...with my first, it was such a fast hospital process (only about 5 hours before he was born) that SO didn't feel bored! I'm hoping to go in as early as possible the morning of, and be able to rest most of the labor away...but I know that will not be the case! :) 2 weeks....just keep saying that to myself! :)

  • My induction did not take that long.  I was induced at 38 weeks with my first.  Got checked into L&D at 1pm on a Friday - at 3:30 they inserted cervidil to get me to dialate.  At 11:30pm my water broke, they started pitocin at 1:00am.  At 6:00am I got the epidural and slept.  Started pushing at 9:30 and baby born at 11:00am on Saturday.  All under 24 hours, which is apparently fast for inductions - but it gives you hope that it wont be 36 hours.
  • I was induced with DD and will be induced next Tuesday if LO does not come on their own. Bring lots to do.

I didn't have a long induction with DD. I had cervidil inserted around 10 pm, my water broke around 2:30 am and I had DD at 12:54 pm.

  • My induction was very fast.  They broke my water at 8:30am and I opted to hold out on the Pitocin for a while.  Got the pitocin around 10:30, got the epidural at 3:30pm, and DS1 was born at 6!  It was really only about 5 hours of legit hard labor.  You never really know how it'll go!

  • Plan for a long time but go with the flow.  With DS I was scheduled for an induction due to rising blood pressure and protein in my urine.  I was supposed to go to the hospital at 7pm on Monday night to start cervadil.  DH and I planned out on Monday afternoon/evening as it would be the last one with just the two of us.  I wound up going into labor on my own at midnight Sunday night into Monday and was at the hospital by 7am Monday morning.  DS was born just after 8pm.
