Dentist

I got some free samples for baby teeth products, toothpaste, etc. and the pamphlet said that your baby should start seeing a dentist by the time they are one.  That is not even on my radar right now.  Have any of you taken your LO to the dentist yet?

Re: Dentist

  • My dentist also told me three, unless we start to notice dark spots on his teeth. I've also read that you should start flossing as soon as there are 2 teeth side by side...not happening.

  • i haven't taken DS yet. our pediatrician said to take them between age 1 and 2. i said that to my dental hygienist, who has a kid a few months older, and she kinda laughed-- she said they really can't do an actual cleaning on them until they're 4 or 5. you're just taking them to familiarize them with the process.
  • My 3 year old first had a dentist appointment right around her 3rd b-day. I think they just brushed her teeth with a regular brush (and had the dentist check them) and skipped the fancy mechanical one. She also came to my appointment when she was 2.5 years to observe.

My dentist said to start bringing the kids when they are 2.5-3 years. So that's when I plan to take DS unless there are issues before that.

  • DS1 is 3 now, and has not gone to the dentist yet. I will be going for my cleaning this month, and my plan is to take him with to familiarize him, and then schedule his apt shortly after.

  • I'm not sure why, but I find this funny. I work with kids in foster care, and it's required that they see a dentist starting at 6 months, so I assumed that's when DD needed to go too. I took her once at 6 months and then read a thread similar to this one so I haven't been too concerned about getting her back in...
