DS hates shoes and it's getting cold

I had DS fitted for some Stride Rite shoes, which weren't cheap.  Every time I put them on him, he gets hysterical.  He cries like I never see him cry - it's not a tantrum cry.  It's more a "why on earth would you torture me like this?  Do you not love me?" cry.  He shakes he is crying so hard.  He's not yet walking, but he is cruising.  We live in the South so it is just now getting chilly out, and soon, I don't know how he is going to play outside without shoes.  Any advice for getting him to not hate shoes?  FWIW, I did try softer shoes, and he hates those too.

yep, I've tried the Robeez shoes, and it's the same thing.  The Stride Rites we got have the soft sole that is recommended for early walkers.

Thanks everyone.  I don't want to spend more money on different types of shoes that he'll probably hate.  I'll continue with socks for the time being.

I have the same issue with DD not to mention she won't keep a hat on either.  She does seem to like Skidders.  They are basically a thick sock with rubber soles and are fairly flexible.  However, they aren't so great for with it's wet outside.
