Advice on DD with aspbergers

I have an 11 year old recently diagnosed with mild aspbergers. As I'm sure some of you can understand, she tends to relate better to animals rather than people. Her dog, Pepper, is her best friend. He is her life and vice versa lol. Pepper has been diagnosed with lymphoma and has ten mos tops to live. My daughter knows he is ill and knows it might be cancer, but she doesn't know he actually has it yet (I just found out today ugh). Any advice on how to break it to her? I've already contacted her therapist. I'm fully prepared for a total meltdown and many many anxiety attacks. I just don't know what to say to make her feel better, for she doesn't see or handle situations the way you or I would see them. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm just so worried about her.

  • Thanks for the reassurance...I'm hoping that, eventually, this will be a learning experience for her as well. We'll have to see...only time will tell I suppose!
