Shimmies around while swaddled...

On Wednesday we transitioned LO to her crib. She is swaddled in a Velcro style swaddle. When I go in for the MOTN feeding she has shimmied her way from the middle of the crib to one of the sides & will be crammed up against it. One night she was at the top but more often it's the front side rail. The crib style is a sleigh so no slats at the head or foot. I don't have a mess bumper because it seemed silly with the sleigh style.

Do you have a little one that moves around while swaddled? Do you do anything to try to prevent it?

  • Yes. I put a blanket across DS like a seat belt in the crib and tuck into the sides if that makes sense

  • DD sometimes does this too but our crib has slats all the way around, she started doing this occasionally when we raised the head of her crib to help with reflux . She never gets her face up by the side, just sometimes shifts sideways so that her feet are close to the side. It's not hurting her in anyway or causing her trouble breathing so we don't do anything to "help" it. She does it in the morning when she wakes up and starts wiggling, she doesn't do it in her sleep.
  • Mine breaks out of her swaddle and ends up sideways but she's still in out room on pack and play so I can adjust her as needed. Worried about crib though.

  • It is decided... I won't do anything and let her shimmy away. Thanks ladies

  • Ours does a complete 180 almost every night.  I wouldn't care except that we had one side of the crib raised to help with reflux.  When she ends up with her feet higher than her head, it sort of defeats the purpose :(
