Damn You 12 Week Growth Spurt

I have the most miserable, fussy, cranky, hungry, non sleeping, overtired baby.

Such a change from my sweet content little girl.

Anyone else here with me? Or already done? How long did it last if so? And did you notice any big changes in your LO afterwards?

Re: Damn You 12 Week Growth Spurt

  • Right there with you. LO wants to eat every 2 hours, constantly wants to be held and is a major fuss-bucket. It's especially bad because I'm starting to get sick. Ugh...

  • Yup! Count us in!
  • I don't know if it has happened or is still happening. A couple weeks ago a sleep regression started, and he's been pretty much back to eating every 2 hours at night. We'll see how this week goes, but momma is tired!

  • I feel like this is happening to us 2 weeks early. I miss my happy go lucky baby! :((

  • Yes! We are there too. Lo was 12 weeks on Thursday but this entire past week was terrible!
  • Us too! So fussy, won't sleep. I am exhausted. The time change did not help one bit either. It's been about a week. I think she is going back to normal now but I don't want to jinx it :)

  • It happened last week for us. No big changes to report. That was a terrible week of 90 min overnight stretches of sleep and my already fussy baby turned it up to 11.

    It lasted 6 days.

  • Yep right there with you. She only wants to nap on the boob and on me. I cannot wait for it to be done.
  • LO had been really difficult to put down for bed the past few nights (she will be 12 weeks in Wednesday), but I can't tell if it's being caused by the time change, a growth spurt, or the fact that we changed up the night time routine a bit (finally letting her do one stretch of up to 6 hours between feedings now that she's consistently gaining weight while before, she was only going a max of 4 hours between feedings to make sure she was eating enough).

  • Count me in too! Yesterday he would be sooo tired but fight sleeping, hungry but act crazy at the boob, playful at times but cry like he was overwhelmed by his toys! I couldn't win! I was supposed to get his 3 month picture yesterday but it would have been easier to move a mountain than it would have been to get him to smile. Hurry up growth spurt
  • 12 weeks was tough. DS was grouchy or inconsolable pretty much the whole 3 or so days. :-(

  • It hasn't started just yet, but probably will soon as DD is 12 weeks this coming Thursday. At least now I know to be prepared. Is it just me or does it seem that there's a growth spurt or wonder week every few weeks?

@TurtleMomma you just described the last 12 weeks of my life. Minus the sick part, hope you get better quick!
  • We are heading into our 12 week growth spurt/wonder week/general week of fuckery.  Why o why o why do these things have to happen at the same time?

  • Blah! This is what we are going through as well. She was a crazy person over the weekend. She was amazing, sweet easy baby M-F of last week, a nice change after coming out of the nightmare of colic. DH had her for 6 hours each day while I worked in my office and despite all his efforts, and mine when I returned to the house, she was fussy, needy, angry baby of terror. He said, "I'm sorry I broke the baby." :(

  • Pretty sure we're here too. She's fussy, eating more but NOT pooping. I don't know if that has anything to do with a spurt but it's been 5 days and only one poop.

    Anyways. Growth spurts are FUN.
  • DD is 12 weeks on Friday and she just started eating non stop and not really napping. Its not helpful since I am trying to pump more because I go back to work on Friday and want to build up my stash.
  • Hmm.. I wasn't aware there was a 12-week growth spurt. We are at 13 weeks as of yesterday, and I can tell you that the last 8 days have SUCKED. He won't sleep at all during the day, though his nighttime sleep has been great. I don't know if that's a growth spurt or not.
  • OMG!!! DS is def going through his 12 week growth spurt...he is like a completely different baby. So fussy slept for a max of 2 hours at a time last night. He refuses to be put down....

On top of that he started running a slight fever yesterday, took him to the pedi and he has pharyngitis. Poor guy!

  • I am there with you! My wonderful sleeper who had been STTN every night was up last night from 2:30 to 4. She had a horrible weekend, and consistently been fighting sleep like no other for the past week.

  • Definitely some sleep regression and an increased appetite. Other than that the 12 weeks GS isn't too bad for us.

  • Haven't hit it with DD2 but will never forget it with DD1. I've been dreading it since the day dD2 was born and have been waiting to say if she's actually more laid back than her sister, knowing how much that 12 week mark could change her.

  • For the growth spurt , do you base it on LO's birthday or due date?

  • I think we are hitting it a little sooner. He used to do big stretches of sleep at night and now he's up every 3-4 hours and his hand goes crazy at his mouth. He's also been wanting to eat every 2 or 2.5 hours during the day. We FF and he's just never satisified. We are 11 weeks on Thursday but I read that the timelines are an estimate- some babies hit them sooner or a little later than others?

Sometimes these are hard to tell with my LO though- we've had lots of changes from BFing to formula feeding and he's been on 3 different formulas. So I don't think he's settled in general.

Yeah, I am pretty sure mine was having his a little shy of 11 weeks!
