Re: Flu Shot

  • Yes he has had the first round and gets the booster next week. I don't want him to get the flu, it's scary when they are this young.
  • Yes, my LO received the shot and following booster. I saw what the flu did to a friend's baby last year (she's ok now, but was in the hospital with pneumonia brought on by the flu and it was scary), and after that, there was no doubt in my mind that DS would be getting it. To me, it just isn't worth the risk.

  • Yes, DS had his first one a month ago and gets the booster next week.  They are just too little to fight off the flu.  I would rather him get vaccinated then run the risk of him getting the flu.

  • They mentioned to us at DD's 6 month appointment, but so far I haven't taken her back to get it, and not sure that I will.  She is BF, doesn't go to daycare, and so far has been very healthy (knock on wood), so I think we'll skip it.  The only time I ever got one was when I was pregnant.

  • Yes, of course. I don't know why you wouldn't get one if your child is old enough (unless there is another medical condition or allergy so you can't), and get one yourself.

People are so uninformed/misinformed about the flu shot it makes me angry.

  • Yes.  DD has gotten both halves.  She is in daycare which is one big reason we're getting it but I would have had her get it regardless.  The flu is nasty.
  • Well I really want to, but need some advice. The two shots for the flu need to be 4-6 weeks apart, then 4-6 weeks before any other shots. And DS has his next set of normal immunizations at his 9 month appt. on Dec. 7th. So if we start his first flu shot asap, then wait 4-6 weeks, then the booster, then wait 4-6 weeks, his 9 month shots will be behind. Is it okay that he'll be behind/off schedule?
It seems overwhelming for him to always be off kilter.
I hope that made sense ....
  • DD got first flu booster with other 6 month shots, except they held off on the third hep b. then she is getting 2nd booster one month later, and they are giving the hep b at that time. I had not heard that no other shots should be given within 4-6 weeks. I have mixed feelings about flu vac, largely because it's often ineffective. But to me the risks outweigh the rewards. Also, DD is in daycare, and bringing new germs home every day. Luckily her immune system seems strong, and she's never gotten anything worse than a case of the sniffles.

  • My DD got hers.  My dh works in a hospital, I work in school and she is around my 2 nieces all the time.  I figured it was better for her to get it just in case due to all of the potential germs we all bring around her.   She didn't have a prob with either of the shots.

  • I haven't heard anything about 4-6 before any other shots. G got his first one with the rest of his 6 month shots and got the second a month later. Didn't even wince or cry for the second one. I don't think he felt it at all!
