Cradle cap

Dd is 7 weeks old and has GROSS cradle cap. I've soaked her head in oil, let it sit for an hour, then shampooed three times now over 5 days (olive oil once, coconut oil twice). It's gone from thick yellow scales to thick white flakes... Am I moving in the right direction? Does anyone have any other suggestions, or should I keep at it with the oil a few more times?

I've heard head and shoulders works great for cradle cap. I've never used it myself but a friend of mine did for her LO and she said it worked wonders.

  • I waited until DS's started to peel up, then rubbed baby oil on it, brushed it with his baby brush, then shampooed it. It helped a lot. it doesn't do anything for the yellow scaly part, but once it starts peeling, that helps clear it up.

  • I used baby oil, then shampooed his head, then used his baby brush in circular motions, then rinsed. It seems to have helped a lot.

  • Mine didn't have it bad, but she did have a little in her eyebrows and head. I used a mixture of baking soda and water. Mixed until it was the consistency of glue. I rubbed into her head at he beginning the bath and used a soft toothbrush in circular motions to rub it in. Let it set during bath and then rinsed. No shampoo...just the baking soda. After a few washes it was gone. I had to use it again tonight after using shampoo for a few weeks bc I noticed it coming back..

  • Try using a fine toothed comb to lift the scales.

  • Lurker here. My SIL swears by Mustela. She said it cleared it up really quickly and bough us some for our LO.

  • My lo has it at 5 1/2 weeks. My pedi said to use head and shoulders and we do. It's slowly going away but I don't bathe her everyday. I also use a fine toothed comb when I wash her hair and that helps too.
  • We used a soft brush before hand to loosen everything and then the Mustela shampoo. We saw a difference right away.
