Maternity suit for interview - help!

Hi Everyone,

I am currently in the process of submitting applications for internship (part of my doctoral program requirements, like medical residency). If all goes well, I will be interviewing in December/January. I decided that it would be a good idea to start looking for maternity suits now because they are so freaking hard to find and it is very important that I have a matching dark colored suit with a blouse underneath -- very formal interview. I have no idea where to find this! I went to a motherhood store and was just so extremely disappointed by the quality of the clothing, especially for formal work clothing. I'm willing to pay a little bit more for this suit... can anyone direct me to a good store or website?

Thanks so much! I'm so anxious about not looking professional enough :-/

  • You may be better off getting separates--dark pants/skirt with a shirt and a blazer.
I think that may be my only option because I haven't seen any sets being sold on any of these maternity websites. Why is this so hard?! Ugh. Pregnant women work too.

  • I've yet to be able to find decent suits. I've just ended up mixing and matching with black maternity paints/shirts and a grey or colored non maternity blazers worn open.
I had a really hard time finding blouses as well but ordered most of my clothing of gilt.

Have you thought about a dress with a blazer?
  • I travel a lot for work and also have a need to wear suits. These are a little pricey, but might be what you are looking for on the Pea in a Pod site for maternity work clothes. The last time I checked they had a few suits.

  • I have an interview this week and have been scrambling to find suitable clothes. I ended up going with black maternity pants from Motherhood (pretty good suit quality) and a regular black blazer from H&M that is two sizes bigger than my normal size. I found that the suit jackets from Motherhood and A Pea in the Pod (what limited selection they had) all screamed "PREGNANT JOB CANDIDATE" and would draw attention to my baby bump instead of my qualifications. The regular blazer hides the bump enough that some may not notice. I also bought a black maternity blazer on sale from A Pea in the Pod in case I have any other interviews in a few weeks or if I wake up on the morning of my interview and suddenly can't button my H&M blazer. Maybe consider trying a few standard blazers to see if they'll work, but if your interviews are a few weeks or months down the road then perhaps investing in a maternity jacket is better. The website for Destination Maternity was my best bet- I was able to search Motherhood and A Pead in the Pod. The stores didn't have much in stock. I also found two really nice blouses from A Pea in the Pod, so you might at least have luck finding a blouse there.

  • I'm going to be 7-8 months pregnant at the time of the interview and although I'm not very big right now at 22 weeks, I foresee needed a maternity blazer. I'm a size 2 so I am having an especially hard time finding maternity clothing that isn't huge on me and buying a standard jacket to cover my bump would mean that the shoulder part would be enormous on me.

Ann Taylor has some great work pieces! I only found their maternity stuff online though.

  • Pea in the pod has them and they are good quality. Expensive but good quality. You could always take it to a consignment shore or put it on Craig's list when you are done since it'll likely be in good shape still.
