XP Sippy cup in the crib?

DD has always been an early riser. Putting her to bed earlier doesn't help. She'll go  through periods where she'll sleep til six, which seems to give her enough sleep. I don't expect her to sleep later than that, and that works for us anyway. She's usually down by 7, 7:15. Sometimes she'll wake at 5 or 5:30, and then it gets progressively earlier. I've been making her wait until six before I go get her, but sometimes she's really crying and I don't want to do that. Today she was crying at 5, so I went in there and gave her a sippy of water. That quieted her down, and I think she actually drifted off for a little while until six. So I'm wondering if I should leave a sippy of water in the crib with her. The thing is, I don't want her soaking through her diaper. She typically doesn't, but she did a couple times for the first time this past week. There isn't really a way I could set one right outside her crib, and besides I don't really want her reaching around outside the crib anyway. But if she's just thirsty, and could have a drink when she wakes up and then fall back asleep, maybe that would be okay. But then I don't want this to become an issue when we're potty training. Thoughts?

You can try it for a couple of nights and see how she does.

A couple of months ago our A/C went out one day and it was a very hot day that we even needed it through the night but it wasn't working. I put DS to bed in a onesie and left a sippy of water in his crib. He drank the whole thing and I had to go in during the night and change his diaper (he was crying, diaper was soaked through). I don't know if he was really hot or just really liked having a sippy in there so yes, you run the risk of her drinking quite a bit of water. 

I don't see anything wrong with it, maybe just limit the amount of water in the sippy? Or just go in once she is already asleep and put the sippy in the opposite corner of her crib so she sees it in the morning?  We do this but with books instead. Once LO is down and asleep, I'll go in and put books in one corner of the bed, that way when he wakes up, he has something to keep him busy until it's time to be up.

I did think of doing it after she was asleep. I hadn't thought of books, which she loves, although it's pitch dark in there but maybe. I think I'm just even more screwed now with daylight savings, but this morning was the first time it occurred to me that she might be thirsty.

I leave a sippy of water with DD at bedtime. I don't think she ever drinks from it but it's part of the bedtime ritual. Is your LO teething? That always causes DD to wake up early.

I would try to avoid this if you can. When my DS1 was probably a year and a half or so he got sick with a cold and a sippy of water helped him sleep at night since he was coughing so much. Well, he's going to be 4 in March and he still takes a cup of water to bed with him. I try to get him to bed without it and while it does work at times, many times he calls for me in the middle of the night b/c he can't find it.  He's potty trained except for at night (it's the only time he poops but that's a whole other issue) and I know I have to first break the sippy habit before I can tackle the over the night diaper habit. With DS2, I am going to do all I can to avoid this mistake... I don't want to deal with this again.

I put a sippy cup of water in the crib with DS when he's not feeling well and during naps on days that he seems extra thirsty. He's always been a heavy wetter and sleeps in nighttime diapers because of it, so soaking through is no more of an issue for us with the sippy cup than without. Since we haven't made a habit of it, it shouldn't affect potty training.
