Short naps

Hey ladies--I don't post much but thought I'd ask for help since I'm at a loss. DD2 is only taking one nap for about 40 minutes now. This has been going on for almost a month and it's driving me crazy. DD1 will be 3 in Feb and she naps for 2 hours and always has once we transitioned to one nap a day. Any thoughts? DD2 has always been a great sleeper but not lately.

Also, my daycare provider tells me she sleeps two hours there. Sometimes I swear she's lying because it hasn't been more than an hour for me in a long time. She goes to daycare tue, wed, thur only and how she manages to stay consistent one place but not other beats me. So frustrated because I need nap time to get things done! Plus she's still tired when she wakes up! Help!

Re: Short naps

  • Are you putting her down too early? Ds will sometimes act sleepy around 10am but if I put him down for a nap then, he wakes up 45 minutes later. 11am is the magic time.

Or maybe she's not ready for one nap? Maybe a 45 minute morning nap and a 1/1.5 hour afternoon nap will work better for her.

  • Well, she transitioned herself to 1 nap about 6 months ago and was fine until recently. I wonder if it has something to do with teeth? She does sleep all night which is good....my oldest is the one that wakes up a night sometimes. Also, I can put her down any time between 12-1:30 (or used to be able to) and it would be fine. I could try to go back to 2 naps though!

  • It could definitely be teeth or maybe a weird developmental leap, especially if she's learning a major new skill. Hopefully it figures itself out soon because nap time is our only source of sanity ;)
